season tix holders getting SCREWED w/ the extra thursday game....

Are you forgetting that we already have a Top 10 OOC opponent scheduled every year in the foreseeable future? Bring this argument back up when Georgia sucks. I'll be happy to have it with you then.

Okay, I'm confused. ST doesn't remember the last post you actually read in a thread, so when I opened this topic I saw:
Since they stripped strength of schedule out of the BCS formula, there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER to schedule good OOC opponents, especially when you've already got a guaranteed top 25, likely top 10 guy on your schedule EVERY YEAR.

So I was pointing out 4 of those 6 teams did schedule good OOC opponents. I would say we schedule a good OOC opponent every year, though I think a little less of it when it's a rivalry game that has to be played every year.

game that has to be played every year.

do you think it's a state law or something? you dont HAVE to play this game, it is a choice

if you guys wanted one weak team off the schedule, you should have supported the ACC plan to add another ACC game to the schedule, then you would have gotten your game and eliminated the slot for a weak team to fill in

For all you guys that are upset with the home OOC schedule, I understand your pain. I wish we never played FCS or 1AA or whatever the hell they are called now schools. However, it is only going to get harder to schedule BCS schools to home/home series. Nobody will want to schedule us because of our unconventional offense. It will not help them prepare for their conference schedule. Not to mention if we raise the bar to 9-10 wins a year. To play a road game against a potential Top 10 team running CPJ's Triple-O is not something the ND, FLA, LSU AD's are going to do.

I would rather have people scared to play us then ND, FLA, LSUs scheduling us as cupcakes.

Army was an AWAY game, so why do we insist the replacement game (vs D1) must be a home game for us? We could have stepped up and did not.

Why are we insisting, if we must have a replacement home D1 game, that we would not return the game?

Where does this attitude come from.

Because why are we going to spend all the travel expenses just to go whip up on some cupcake? The only reason we were going to go to Army is because they played a home and home with us, so we didn't have to pay them to come(I would assume). Maybe we could have gone and played a home and home with LSU or something, but the point is why put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage compared to other teams? With one top OOC opponent in U[sic]GA and another good OOC opponent lined up for each of the next five seasons, adding yet another top talent would be shooting ourselves in the foot. This attitude comes from the desire to win a championship. Just look up a bit at the post which listed the OOC schedules of the last five national champions, which are VERY similar to ours.

So I was pointing out 4 of those 6 teams did schedule good OOC opponents.

And I was pointing out that we already have a BETTER OOC opponent scheduled than any of those guys, so WTF do we need to schedule a 2nd good OOC opponent for?

qft

They removed margin of victory, not SOS.

I think these people are forgetting that UGAG is an OOC game. Having to play them in the 'pool is worth two patsies.

Why we have two Thursday night games:
Originally Jax State was scheduled for Saturday but the brainiacs in Atlanta decided to schedule a Clemson-Alabama matchup at the Dome for the same time. Atlanta traffic around GT will be nightmarish as Clemson and Bama fans flood the ATL. Again, this isn't the best scenario, but it's much better than it could've been.

I still don't get it. We can work around games like that. Those folks will all drive in, stay at hotels, and walk/Marta to the games. Plus, they will play at 8PM or something, and you can't even tailgate at the Dome until 3 hours before game time, right? We could play our game at noon and be home before the traffic even starts. The traffic argument is BS, if you ask me.

Oh, you didn't say that in your post, and I said I jumped into thread without context.

So my bad.

They removed margin of victory, not SOS.

There used to be a direct SOS component in the rankings, even after they told the guys who write the computer polls not to include MOV anymore.

Computer polls are still free to use SOS (which they pretty much have to, because otherwise they're meaningless) but it is no longer a direct parameter of the final average.

Why we have two DIAA schools on the schedule:

I certainly hope this has NOTHING to do with moving the game to Thursday night because it is pretty much an admission that you are not a first class D1 program if you move your games to satisfy other schools scheduling in your own home city.

If we really did this for that Atlanta Bulldawg Club that is running these games then they are just going to push us around every year and schedule more such conflicting matchups in the future.

Since when has having a big event at the dome caused Tech to move a home game? There have been plenty of such occasions in the past (conflicts in schedules) without ever moving.

Two Thursday night games sux big time for those of us who live out of town.

ramblinwise, I understand where you're coming from, but I think that by moving the game to Thursday we will get a lot more exposure for the program. Let's face it, if the game was on Saturday, no one was going to watch besides already established GT fans. Of all the games on tap for opening Saturday, seeing GT beat down Jax State wasn't going to be near the top of the list for anyone. Now, though, I think we will be the only game on TV and also the first college football game of the season.

Couple that with the intrigue of our new offense, and people all around the country will have their eyes on us(assuming the game is televised nationally.) While it does suck for out of town fans who attend the game, it is a genius move in terms of national exposure for the program.

Now, though, I think we will be the only game on TV and also the first college football game of the season.

Not quite true. I think there's 4 games that night, and we weren't remotely going to get top billing. USCe-NCState is the top game. Now that Perillou transfered to J State, though, we might get a lot more press.

Oh, my bad. Still, it's better to compete with just three games than an entire Saturday slate, if only for the fact that we will likely get a bigger piece during Friday morning SportsCenter than we would during Sunday morning SportsCenter.

Being a season ticket holder who has a four hour drive to Atlanta; the worst thing I see about this year's schedule is that it doesn't start until late August. What am I supposed to do during June and July? whine and moan like a bunch of old ladies about not playing LSU every season I guess.

JAX State on Thursday night has much more appeal than a 1 o'clock start in the east stands in August, and I don't care where you live.

TV matchups have already been determined for that Thursday, and unless something happens we're not one of them.

So why are we rehashing this now? Hasn't all of this been known for like 2 months? I can't figure out if some people just don't pay attention or whether you guys are just bored and need something else to bitch about.

BTW, what's on CSTV and/or ESPNU? There's no way this game would be a major channel, but one of the smaller stations might pick it up.

Since we're rehashing...

The game was moved for more reasons than competing directly with the Clemson-Bama game (although, we would have played that night if it wasn't in town). Moving the game up to Thursday also allows us to start preseason practice earlier, which gives our players a head start in learning the new systems. And it gives us extra days of rest and practice before the ACC opener on the following Saturday.

What I don't understand with you out-of-towners is why you wouldn't take Thu/Fri off, come to the game and give yourselves a five day weekend? It's not like they're springing this on you in mid-August or something.
