So lame...

Season ticket sales are up to 26,000! Why is that a problem? That's up over 7,000 in just a handful of years.

At UGA you have to donante $2000 just to even have a chance at a seat. At Tech we have people trying to figure out a way around donating money because the "market value" is low. Thats whats wrong with our fan base.

I don't see the problem here. Sales are up. Georgia sells more than us, which sucks but what can you do?

What exactly is it that you want, El Guapo? What is wrong with our fan base?

yeah, and then making up BS on how Tech tickets cost more than UGA tickets.

many UGA fans buy Tech season tickets when they play in ATL, and i know some that bought the Arizona St package so that they could go out there.

Tech people dont seem to consider football to be worth that much to them in their lives, while other schools' fan seem to - does that make us 'smarter'?

I think the problem is the negative view the article seems to bring to GT vs UGAg in ticket sales. UGAg is trying to find a way to accomodate and Tech can't seem to fill it up. If 26,000 is actually UP, it would have been nice for Chip Towers to put that in the article.

I just hate how everytime I read an article that tries to be neutral GT/UGAg, it seems to always shed positive light on the pups and negative on the Jackets.

I guess that's the nature of the beast. Tech needs to start winning or there won't be much positive to read.

I'll forever be baffled by people who are angry over what the priorities of others are.

I buy seasons tickets every year (Assuming financial stability) because I love my Jackets and want to support them. I am proud of that. But I don't look at anyone who doesn't do that as an idiot or like something is wrong with them.

There are problems with how some people handle their dealings with Tech, as there is an example of on this forum right now.

But for most people, their priorities come down to how much worth they're getting for what they pay and if they don't believe that $250 is going to be worth spending for something they're not sure they'll like then they're not going to drop the cash. If I was pretty damn sure that we were going to have a 2-10 season, I'd still buy seasons tickets because that's how I work and that's what I do.

But I would be a moron to assume that priorities are universal and that anyone who isn't spending a bunch of money on something they won't enjoy are half-assed fans.

Of course we have fewer tickets, it's how the structure of the two programs works. It sucks. Cry about it. Loudly. Do whatever you want, but don't point the finger at our collective fan base.

or we add Journalism as a major, that would also help

This is why I'm pissed off. People aren't taking into account how the article was written (A jab at us, when it comes down to us and another lipstick stain on the back of those silver britches) and by who (The AUC) and are just running with the emotion that it gives off:

"Tech ticket sales are up! But.. you know.. who gives a damn RUN LINDSAY RUN MY GOD HE'S ONLY A FRESHMAN GEORGIA BULLDOG (#1 Preseason Physical Entity!!!) SALES ARE SKYROCKETING CAN YOU FEEL THE FURY"

I thought it said in the article that our season ticket sales were DOWN.

In general, it's not a good sign for season tickets to decrease in the year a team changes coaches, as Tech did by hiring Paul Johnson. McLaren said he is in the process of calling the fans who didn't renew and he's finding, more often than not, it was simply an oversight.
Reading this certainly makes it seem like our season ticket sales are down from last year. Anyone have any concrete info on this? If they're actually up, I might have to start changing my opinion of the AJC...I don't think it is nearly as biased as most people here say it is(I think that U[sic]GA's success on the field and our non-success has everything to do with it), but if our ticket sales are up then this is basically a lie.

I thought it said in the article that our season ticket sales were DOWN.

It said only 85% renewed. Didn't take into account that lots of people are still in the process of renewing, and that they've sold lots of new tickets too.

I'm pretty certain the UGA's renewal rate was below 100%, considering it's a bit tough to have a rate of more than 100%. People move or lose jobs and, sometimes, as the article mentioned, new ticket holders just forget to renew. I wouldn't be surprised if UGA had a renewal rate of about 90-95%, especially with how expensive it is to keep tickets there.

And it's also not a problem of fan base that we have school about half the size with many more alums out-of-state, our main problem with having season ticket holders.

That's what I'm wondering...how many new tickets? If adding in the new season tickets gives us an overall "renewal" rate of only like 90-95%, that probably isn't good. I would have thought it would be well above 100%, especially after seeing what hiring Saban did for Alabama. Granted, our hire was not as flashy, but I do think there is legitimate hype/excitement about Johnson, and I figured that would have translated into an increase in season tickets.

Supposedly, although I haven't seen the numbers, we have more season ticket sales already this year than we did 2 years ago, and 2 years ago was a record high. That would mean we're currently at a record high ticket sales.

That's 2nd hand info, I do not have a source. I'd love to see a better source if someone has one.

They're talking about this on the Hive as well and some guys seem to have an explanation for it... FWIW

The main reason CPJ was brought in was to re-energize the fan base and win more games. He is still 0-0. Let's give the man a chance to do his job and then we'll have this conversation next summer. The die hard fans will be at the games and pay the money no matter what the record is or who the coach is. The rest of the fan base needs a reason or a good product to give full support and those are the fans D-Rad is trying to get back by hiring CPJ. He knows it will not happen overnight, but his focus is 4-5 years from now we have a perinnial Top 10 team and 100% sellouts.
