So We’ve Been Here Before…

This is somewhere else we have been before, and I think you will all agree.....

The difference between Curry and Collins is that we weren't paying Curry anywhere near 3 mil/yr even inflation adjusted. Rice knew exactly what he was doing and planned accordingly.

This is just a öööö show and given the landscape of college football, hope is not gonna save us.

In this thread we have two really dumb exaggerations:

This is just like Bill Curry!

The last 10 years have been all the same!

What a öööö show. Lame duck coaches make for really bad off-seasons.

First off lets not make comparisons to 40 years ago and think that things are relevant. Look at the P5 and tell me which schools in the last 10 years have retained a coach who won only 9 games in 3 seasons? Kansas is the only one that comes to mind. The fact that CGC was given an unnecessarily long contract should be grounds to fire TStan for cause. Losing to NIU at home is grounds to fire CGC for cause. I've been a GT fan since 1990 and I never lost faith in Tech's ability to compete. But with the way things are run there now the program is a joke. Even my own kids make fun of me for being a Tech fan because the program is such a mess. And these are kids who were by my side cheering on GT 5 years ago.
Cut them out of your will. See who’s laughing then.

In 1980 we have a coach with no head coaching experience and only 4 years experience as an assistant. We go 1-9-1, 1-10, 6-5, and 3-8 his first four years. I would say Bill Curry and CGC have a lot in common except I believe Bill Curry ended up with some pretty good assistant coaches. Then in 1987 we hire Bobby Ross who was a proven winner. Well … he starts out 2-9 and 3-8 but ends up with a natty. Of course Ross had a great coaching staff. So here we are again. My question is do we have the talent that Curry had in 1984 when he broke out of the slump and that Ross had in 1989 when his team started winning? My second question is does CGC have the coaching staff that Curry had in 1984? I know he doesn’t have the coaching staff that Ross assembled, that’s not even close.
Bill Curry is as much of a better coach than Collins as Paul Johnson is Curry.

Best thing that happened to us was Curry taking most his coach staff with him to Bama. Ross brought in some legit coaches as replacements.
Painter and Lindsey were first class coaches that we would die for right now.

Lots of posters on this site would have fired Bobby Ross after his second season.

These days, there is way too much money at stake. Bowden got off to a slow start at FSU. Beamer the same at VT. That was when people were patient.
But now ... immediacy and money make that long lead time to get ti going a thing of the past.

It's one thing to lose a lot. We've also lost 18 games in the Collins era by double digit margins.

Then fire his ass after three years. See which coach worth a flip would then take the position knowing he has no room for error.

I swear, you idiots would fire Saban after he lost to whoever it was he lost to when he first got to Alabama. Who was that? Louisiana Northwestern Theater Drama College?

He went 12-2 and 14-0 right after that
We’ve gone 3, 3 and 3 in the win column
I was and am all for firing him
The point is it’s the continued record of suck with historic suck thrown in

This is year four. Collins probably keeps his job with six wins this season. How many three win seasons before you would make a change?

Would you have fired Bobby Ross after his pathetic record his second year? I mean, it was really bad.
No. Every coach should get at least 3 or 4 years. Given that there has been no measurable improvement after three years, I am amazed by your optimism. I hope you are right. We should have a good indication by early October.

We’ve had worse suck. When I was in school we won two games in two years.
