Something to think about?

Personally, I believe to be better than a 6 win season we need to recruit big time players....Again, Look at the USC's, Miami's and FSU's of the world. For that matter VaTech. They all get top ranked high school recruits. Do we have time to sit back and hope these 1-2-3 star players and some not ranked-can compete in this conference. I'm sorry, I want another 10 win season and right now its not looking so good.

Sorry, I'm just stunned at the lameness of this whine. "We're not ____." Good luck. I hope being a crybaby forges all your dreams come true and makes your family proud. You're a nutless wonder AFAIC.

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

My memory as well as my intellect needs jogging.
Can someone tell me how GT compared with other Div 1A teams in recruiting when Bobby Ross was at GT? Is there a website that gives this kind of information? I'm wondering also about the Bobby Dodd era too. This is just for my own curiosity, no point or argument is trying to be made.

USC's, Miami's and FSU's

Add ugag, UF, OK, TX to that list too..

Then let me know how many of the players that go to those schools would be allowed to visit on an offical visit to GT.

Thanks

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

Point well taken, Dean. Guess will end up like Vanderbilt in the SEC. Thats alright..

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

So you're solution is to admit players and then flunk them out?

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

That's better than not admitting them at all. By admitting them, at least they have a chance to succeed. By not admitting them, they never even have a chance.

Since when is this country about not giving people that really want to succeed a chance to do so?

You want to admit defeat without trying. I don't want you in my foxhole.

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

But, don't you know of the repercussions of doing that? More scholarship losses. GT will not do that.

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

If they can't keep up, they can't play anyway until they get back on track. If they flunk out they cost us scholarships. Have you checked the new NCAA rules lately? They don't want schools to give kids a chance if they're questionable. Unless we add some crip majors and drop one of the math requirements we will never be able to recruit the kids you seem to be talking about.

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

Refrigeratormover, I went to Pickens! I find it amazing any of those schools up there ever put out D-I players. It was honestly hard to find anyone, athletes or not, that would even consider GT (and I graduated only 5 years ago). Anyway, here's to the resurgence of N Ga football.

Re: Recruiting rankings are about as accurate..

Every once in a while you will find a D-1 kid but i feel at this level the HS coaches really have to push the kid hard. I have found that some of these kids don't want to leave home and stay with family buss. which is OK but just can't believe it. Only reason i was found was uga was looking at a monster TE in Ellijay and they happened to see me on the field. Then my coaches pushed like hell because it gave them publicity as well. There are some good kids but you have to look within to see if they have what it takes and are willing to put the effort. I think there is a walkon from Ellijay if i'm not mistaken. Hensley is his last name, great parents and great Tech fans.

Whew! That's a pretty tall order there, Rome. I honestly don't know of any readily available stats for that kind of thing. I never really recall much debate about recruiting prior to the internet. It would be interesting though. I'm sure Coach Dodd especially was in the hunt for most of the top talent in the SouthEast. I think it was much more regional back in those days.

I was reviewing our Recruit list and how each are ranked by stars. Why do you suppose we are lacking in 4 and 5 star recruits. When I look at the ranking reports of all the schools-Tenn., Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan have as many 12-15 4/5 star commitments. Don't get me wrong, I know we have some great commitments, but we need some real all star talent
We do now!!!

What I like now seems to be bringing in very quality athletes that are going to push each other to get better.

THAT IS HOW WE ARE GOING TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP!

Unless I'm wrong and I'm sure I will be corrected, we now have enough athletes at each position that every started should be afraid to lose their job. This is when it gets good. Spring practice will be fun to watch.

You know you are not wrong. Even in the positions without depth, the total pool of talent on the team should motivate everyone. Great point!

I want:
- World peace
- That burnette from the film Serenity
- An endless supply of New Castle

You figure out the details.

Bad news, BJ. Gina Torres is coming after you, and she's pissed at being snubbed.

And Summer Glau told me she'll make your head explode "the Scanner way."

Do you have anything better to do rather than go through 2 years worth of posting to pull this one back up?? Does your boss know you're spending too much time on the computer??

No boss, he's a senior in high school with apparently way too much free time.

Excuse me for pulling up an old post. You know it doesn't take that much time to find old posts. I just wanted to show the difference between this year and 2 years ago as far as recruiting goes.
