The Coach before Key was Johnson. The Coach after Johnson is Key. There was no Coach in the middle.I'm actually pretty stoked about this season. We seemed to be "GOL" style organized during the spring practice, as opposed to the chaos from the head coach (can't remember his name) prior to Key.
You know, I wondered. Since we didn't look like we were coached at all for about three-plus seasons. The Coach before Key was Johnson. The Coach after Johnson is Key. There was no Coach in the middle.
I have occasionally wondered if it wouldn't be worth it to retroactively forfeit all of our games between Johnson and Key and wipe it from the record books and deny that we played football between them except it wouldn't be fair to the players who labored under that idiot.
Ah, the ol’ U(sic)GA during WWII ploy. The Coach before Key was Johnson. The Coach after Johnson is Key. There was no Coach in the middle.

No, pretty sure the dwags had an actual football coach during WWII.Ah, the ol’ U(sic)GA during WWII ploy.
This is actually a good thing and it's how Tech can find the most success with NIL. We are not going to spend any NIL $ on unproven HS recruits. We are going to target players in the portal with actual college stats and who fill a specific need for us (this year it's mostly LB where we have the biggest need). We will use our limited dollars to fill gaps, not go after big fish.Whatever you think of NIL + the portal, the inefficiencies in the market are being blasted away at lightning speed.
"I am a backup LB for ND, from Indiana originally, I think I would like to get some more playing time to see what I can do"
I dunno, why not IDAHO?
Seems random, but obviously worked since he got double the tackles he had in 3 years combined
"Now that worked. I would like to take my experience and use my last year at somewhere with a higher profile."
Let's see, how much more profile can you get. Spin the wheel...click click click...how about GEORGIA TECH?
Maybe (probably?) there is some sort of connection but that is some market efficiency to find this guy.
I am glad we have a spot on the wheel, hope this guy is productive, also hope we have someone else who starts over him who will be here longer.
One way or another this guy, who would have been more or less stuck to play out the string at ND, gets to have a lot better idea of what his best outcome could be. Good for him.

This is my feeling, too, about the transfer portal. Apart from NIL, it just improves the efficiency of the transfer. Particularly at places like UGAg, a talented kid who gets injured falls down the depth chart and gets recruited over as well. He gets buried and is in danger of losing his scholie. The portal allows him a beneficial and efficient restart elsewhere. This is a good thing.I agree and am glad the kid has the opportunity to look around and get a better opportunity to fully see what he can do. I don't particularly want kids to waste away down our depth chart either but I hope they end up with a degree from somewhere one way or the other as they pursue their football options.
The purpose of college is to prepare kids for adult life. The transfer portal kind of gives an indication of the type of person the player will be as an adult. The kid that keeps transferring because of playing time, NIL, etc. becomes the adult that is always switching jobs, getting divorced, moving from place to place. He is never truly satisfied. The kid who sticks it out at their chosen school and achieves his goals will most likely succeed in his adult life. Of course there are exceptions on both sides. This is my feeling, too, about the transfer portal. Apart from NIL, it just improves the efficiency of the transfer. With NIL, the transfer portal has morphed into a maximizer of money. Now it’s not only buried kids but top shelf starters who are leaving for a better payday.
In true NCAA fashion, another good thing has been truly screwed up. Only this time it wasn’t the NCAA.
So are you saying you'd stay in a dead end job with no hope of promotion rather than going to a new company where there is more opportunity? The purpose of college is to prepare kids for adult life. No that would be an exception. The argument could be made that you chose the job that is the dead end but of course jobs and situations sometimes change in which you have no control. So are you saying you'd stay in a dead end job with no hope of promotion rather than going to a new company where there is more opportunity?

By your theory why have loyalty to anything? Why stay with the same spouse when that other one looks better? Why go to the same church when the shakers and movers are going to the one across town? When companies start downsizing many times seniority is the deciding factor on two equal candidates on who stays and who gets laid off.It doesn't even have to be a dead end job. Everybody I know leaves the door open for better opportunities. It's just reality these days. Overall, I like where I'm at, but when an opportunity with a 20% raise comes up, I'd be an idiot not to take it. You don't get to live an $80k lifestyle by staying in the same place.
It's similar with transfers. Players at a P5 collegiate level aren't there because they think they're the 2nd best player. If they're not making the starting line-up, whether it's true or not, in their eyes the coach just isn't seeing the value that they bring. If they have the opportunity to prove it on the field somewhere else, they'd be dumb not to try. Compound this with the lack of certainty in most coaching staffs annually and even in the conference they're playing in, why would a player have any loyalty?

I guess it comes down to the old adage that the grass is always greener on the other side. I was just trying to encourage the football player that tries to stick it out in the situation they are in as opposed to jumping from school to school. Every situation has to be evaluated on its own terms.Any attempt to boil down a major life decision to a single factor would, obviously, be ridiculous. The "all else being equal" should be implied. However, if you feel like a change (be it school, career, spousal arrangement, etc) will lead to a significant overall improvement in your life, I can't think of many instances in which you shouldn't make it.
