Stingtalk makes the AJC buisness section...

They're all real on the outside.

Heh...yup...

Like I told my wife when she was considering getting some "work done" following our second daughter's birth...

"If I can touch them, they are real."

My sister and her husband do alot of kettle bell and Crossfit training and are looking into opening a gym in the Seattle area. Its a great workout and they both look incredible as a result.

For those wondering about the workout, here is what we did this morning. I put in my weights used:

Basically it's a time circuit. So you do each exercise for 30 seconds getting as many reps with the weight as you can in that time and then rest for 30 seconds. You go through and do a total of 8 exercises and then rest for a minute before starting over. You do the whole circuit 3 times.

Warm-up: Turkish Get-up 4 times per said: 20 Kg bell

Two-Handed Swings: 40 Kg bell
Suitcase deadlifts: 40 kg bells
Russian twist: 28 kg bell
Squats (more like a front squat when using KB): 40 Kg bell

Seesaw Press (alt. shoulder press): 28 Kg bells
Divebomb Pushups
Right Hand Row: 32 Kg, 40 Kg, 32 Kg
Left Hand Row: 32 kg, 40 Kg, 32 Kg

We open and close with joint mobility exercises.

Interesting. Only kettle bell stuff I've ever seen have been snatches.

must hold back rude comment about Kyle's lack of experiences with snatches... must fight the urge.. one day at a time...

I hear ya. My bigger problem with them is that if I don't remember to file down my calluses they tear my hands up.
Weird. I never have a problem with my calluses. I usually pick at them from time to time.

KB's are very hard on your hands, it's really my only complaint about them. In most KB exercises there is just a whole lot more rotation of the weight in your grip than you get with dumbbells or a straight bar. Serious KB folks really have to treat their hands like gymnasts do and learn to keep the calluses down and how to deal with tears.

Not to suggest that you are not doing something right but KBs should not be tearing up your hands. Not sure what routine you are doing but you should be holding the KB loosely - especially with exercises where the KB twists in your grip like snatches.

Some folks use chalk but that's not a good idea - its just covering improper form.

How does one find out more about these "snatches" and where might one meet one?

love,
ArchiTECH

Well architech we can be certain that you won't find one anywhere near, on, looking at, or exposed to kyle.

/saw that comming

I don't disagree entirely, but when you're snatching 28 - 32 Kg and also doing swings three days a week even a loose grip is going to generate calluses unless you're letting the bell hit the ground. Somewhere in there I have to impart some shock on my hand to stop the bell from hitting the ground.

Now some of it is that my forearm strength is still catching up to where I feel comfortable catching with my fingers and not with my palm. I can do this with alternating swings, but with Snatches it's still a little bit of a challenge when I feel like pushing myself.

Considering the number of articles on Dragon Door about it, working with KB's primarily and at upper weights is going to generate solid calluses and without appropriate care you will tear those calluses from time to time. Every guy working to get his RKC has very banged up hands right now as they prepare for the snatch test (easy joke there fellas).
