I am not sure how it was when you guys graduated, but it is pretty bad now. I'd say a good 50% of the students simply don't care about the football team.

Well, most people attend Tech for academics. Especially among the grad student population. This shouldn't be much of a surprise.

I didn't pay the out-of-state bucks to root for a football team, that's for sure. Athletics were a perk, of course (obviously I like sports, or else I wouldn't read GT sports message boards)...but considering also that the students allowed their athletic fund fees to be raised I'm not terribly concerned about this.

Everyone should always attend college for academics first. But attending sporting events and rooting for your team and school is HUGE part of the overall college experience, especially regarding football in the south.

I'm not surprised the see students from other parts of the country not care about football as much, and I don't expect international students to care. But I wish they both did.

I like to see the students that do care and the administration try to do what they can to change this.

You should get undieing loyalty, excitement and dedication from your students above all.

Its a wierd mix, Id say that our students who do care, probably care more than any other school. The mutt sluts I hung out with during the end of my undergrad, and their other guy friends really didnt care that much. They'd yell at the games and tailgate reasonably hard but at the end of the game they werent going to be all that different, only a little more annoying if they had won.

Where Tech on the other hand, if we lost a game, my night was ruined, we'd grab a bite to each, have a few beers and talk about the game, but it definitely wasnt a lively mood. Noticed the same at Auburn (no tp at toomers is the big difference), Clemson fans seem to be more like we are than most, but thats all just anecdotal stuff from me.

Gotta admit, it takes a lot of caring to risk being expelled from the game, and potentially facing legal issues to care enough to throw something :)

I was in undergrad from 94 to 98. Student support for the team now, in my opinion, is at an all time high. Relative to 94, it's night and day. And the students I've talked to by and large aren't nearly as grumpy about the team's performance as the caste of opinionated internet alums are.

Student tickets are always sold out, for every game, even though you have to stand in line for them now, and you used to be able to walk in and out of the stadium by flashing a buzzcard. If GTAA really wants to 'fill the stands,' they just need to give away all unsold tickets to students with buzzcards, 10 minutes prior to kickoff.

Considering that Tech has a much larger foreign student population, that should not be surprising. Having worked there though, I am surprised at the number of kids from elsewhere who try to get into our uniquely American sport.

The worst is when people are playing ultimate frisbee during the football games or studying... it just annoys me.

Damn Straight.

If your not at the game you should at least be partying with a group of friends in front of the tv.

I woke up late Saturday so I was walking over to my car to go watch the game. It was about 12:30 and there were people playing frisbee on the sac fields and I just did the :ugh: face as I walked past. I always see people playing cricket and stuff even when we play important games, but damn, these kids were white, they know football is important.

I saw today when I went to purchase a guest pass that student tickets had sold out in the first few hours of being availible. That is a good sign.

Went to pick up tickets at 10:30 and they were sold out for ungergrads. The ticket office opens at 9:00. I assume there was a line and it sold out around 9:20.

For some reason I have graduate vouchers and they still had tickets for them.

I cant figure out why they seperate the graduate and undergrad tickets. There is less grad students (percentage-wise) interested in tickets than undergrads as already pointed out earlier, so assuming grad tickets are sold out less often than undergrad then there are wasted tickets.

I am pretty sure the ticket office gives unexchanged graduate tickets to undergrads if the undergrad ticket share is sold out.

has any had any serious talk to Drad about doing the filling the stadium with students idea? I know its has been talked about but now that we actually have a guy in charge that is proactive, I'd like to see this happen. I never understood why we should have empty seats if we have students willing to coming and be loud and proud. I remember plenty of times having to watch the game from my dorm room, while there were plenty of empty stadium seats.

It would improve the game experience for everyone there and IMO, make more sidewalk fans want to come in the long term. Seems like a win-win to me. This seriously needs to be proposed to DRad if it hasn't been already.

I graduated 2002. When I was in school, it wasn't the sac fields or cricket that were distracting the students.

It was 'Dance Dance Revolution' in the student center. That was really cool to pass through the center on the way to a game and see a line for that game..... It was really pathetic. Not a female in sight, and they met every stereotype for techies.

I need to stop before I start ripping hard on our students.

I'm curious to know how the crowd situation was in the early 90s.

I heard something about normal students forming a tunnel for the players to run through and not just by the Ramblin Wreck Club.

Anyone?
