Student Ticket Policy

I agree with most of what LamdaChi is saying, except for the part about non-greeks hating the system. I enjoyed it, but being enrolled during the heart of the Chan Gailey era, camping out wasn't nearly as much of a problem. It's ridiculous that the school is shelling out $150,000 for a system that will a pain in the ass. The basketball system sure was when it started. It started around the time I was getting ready to get out, and it was the reason I gave up on the basketball games. I camped out a few times, nearly caught pneumonia doing it in 2003 and my only regret is that we didn't win.

The only way this is a good idea is if the season tickets require you to show up for every game. You miss a game, you lose your seat. If not, you're going to get large sections of the North Endzone empty when we play some of our games.

Not sure if season tickets will be a problem like that. At the very least if I'm going to pay money for something that otherwise would be free you'd be interested enough to go to the games you paid for. Then again I might be underestimating what people will go through to get a seat for the Georgia game.

The fact that tickets are under $100 means they are still cheap and though having to pay may weed out some people, it certainly won't weed out all.
At Tech we are spoiled in that we don't have to pay for student football tickets unlike most other schools with a decent football program. The same is applicable to donations as a normal season ticket holder, our required Tech Fund donations are small compared to most other schools yet people still whine and complain about it. If it is something you care about it, then get over it and pay up.

I hope these aren't assigned seating? Just GA, right? Please tell me they're not going to hand out front row and stuff randomly.

This is one of my main questions (along with will 2900 be enough). As a Swarm member, I still want the experience of getting to games 4-5+ hours before kickoff (at a minimum) to actually translate into where I sit (stand :p). I love going down there to talk football early in the morning and preparing for the game, but if it no longer will get me a better seat than those who arrive later, I doubt I'll do it. Hopefully more details will be released well before the ticketing begins and everything goes smoothly!

I really thought this ticket policy wouldn't affect me since I'm in RRC. Usually, I just walk into the stadium with the Reck and never have to even think about getting a ticket. Now, I have to pay $36 dollars when I could just wait before every game and get in for free and still stand in the front row. I am also greek. I'm telling you right now, this is pissing off my entire fraternity. First and 10 sucked, but this is a real pain in the ass. Every person in the fraternity now has to pay $36 for the season and $36 per girl they want to sit in our block. Why penalize the groups that sit in block seating? Also, what happens with co-op students? I'm hoping they work all the kinks out of this system before the season starts.

Not sure about the Season Tickets but they did say the regular tickets seats are first come first serve.

Sounds to me like you're complaining about having to pay for a ticket.

Interesting.

First come first serve as to if they're given to you. I want to know if they're going to have seat numbers on them that will be enforced.

EDIT: Sorry, misread your post. That is good to hear. Hopefully season tickets are the same way.

Interesting.

Yeah, but for a different reason than you think. I'm upset that those who are loyal and make it out to every game are penalized (paying $36), while those who only want to go to certain games get away scot free. I think it should be the other way around. I don't mind paying a little bit of money for the entire season, but those people that only want to go to the georgie game should be charged more. You understand? I hate fair weather fans, and I think this system makes it easier for them.

That doesn't seem to coincide with how you were saying that it's unfair for every person in your block to have to pay.

I'm noticing a lot of past tense in the posts defending camping out.

Yes...well...I don't think anyone is camping out for any events right now...and I'm not positive about this, but I don't think anyone is posting from the future...so....

We do have a $118 athletic fee. Add in $36 for the season tickets gets you to about $150. Yeah that includes all sports, but its not like students aren't paying.

From the Nique article:
The current method for assigning tickets has not been finalized, but will be decided on before the end of the Summer Semester. Seating outside of the season ticket area will be first-come, first-serve.

Makes it sound like they will be assigning seats, and if past experience with blocks are any indication, people will likely be dicks about it.

Looking back on it, the benefits of being in Marching Band just loom larger and larger...

This.

Although, I did camp out once for tickets to the miami game in 2006. I agreed to do a shift for the guys camping for our entire dorm building. For whatever reason, I took the overnight shift. It was freezing cold, and in the morning, I got stuck hauling most of the larger items (large TV, at least two tents, and a table) back to Smith dorm alone. Haven't spoken to the guy I was doing the favor for since, and it's completely tainted the idea of camping for tickets for me.

when can we get the season tickets online?

At the least the regular tickets won't be available until the start of fall semester. Seems to me the same will be true of season tickets. So then no earlier than Aug 17.

That's (the athletic fee and ticket fee) a lot cheaper than almost every other school. That may be too high, or it may be too low, but, at least compare it to other schools.

But as far as complaints go: for any of the students on campus, you had an opportunity to have your say. Most of you probably didn't take advantage of it. Others did.

And a note to Lambda Chi dude: yes, the rules were public. But you've confused "process" with "fair outcomes." The two aren't the same.

I don't care about these policies. Not one bit. But, if you have a problem with them and you are a student, you have a way to deal with these things and fix the problem (and if you don't think you have time, just think of all the time you'll save not camping out and apply that to raising a stink). Complaining on an internet message board is not likely to influence the decision makers. So, do something that will help your career later own: figure out who made the decision you disagree with and then persuade them to make a better decision.

My stake in this? Reminding Tech students that complaining about something is ineffective unless you choose the correct forum and carry a big stick.

The GSU athletic fee is $146 I think. It's about $10 less than the GT fee+football season tickets.
