Sure would like to hear Demjackets....

There wasn't much to say about it. We stunk up the place, a couple of early plays changed the game. The TD drop in the endzone, not fielding the onside kick, muffed punt, bad call on the fake punt all made this game hard to watch. I really thought the boys were ready, they seemed really excited, talking to a bunch of them the night before the game they were pumped. It just didn't transfer to the field.

I hate it for the Seniors but you gotta tip your hats to them, they gave it their all this season and did better then most thought we would. They took us into the new era with this new regime and started it off right. Bright future we have here at GT. The Seniors will be missed and I for one want to thank them all and I feel honored to have the privilege of getting to know them all over the last 4/5 years, they are a great group of young men.

Poor showing in the bowl game but still one heck of a season. I'm proud of the team and what the coaches accomplished.

I'm excited about next season.

Well said and I agree. Thank you for your response.

Thanks Dems...... Unless the B-ball team circles the wagons quickly its going to be a long winter. I can't wait for spring practice, when does it begin???

Hey, GT baseball's a top-15 preseason team... for what that's worth. Ask UGA.

What a difference a year, a win, a new coach, and lowered expectations makes, eh?

Coach Hall is a great man and great coach (I know him personally) and I pull for GT in all sports, but I'm just not a baseball fan. I will keep up with the team and watch games vs UGay and postseason games and thats about it.

come see the GT v FSU games at the Rusty and bring binoculars.

It's bad enough that the seniors had to go out on a sour note like that, but has anyone else noticed that those seniors never won a bowl game? The other thing is that it does look like a bright future, but I think this game could signal clouds on the horizon. Not necessarily because of the lost, but of how it was lost. The reason things looked so bright exiting the season was because of our last two games, which we played very well in. It had seemed the inconsistencies of effort and execution from the early part of the season was behind us. It was because of youth and a new system. But what now? It is entirely possible that next season could be the same or worse. There is no guarantee that our guys will play more consistently as juniors or seniors. Just look at Maryland, they were senior heavy and played schizophrenically. I'm just worried that we might not be better than a team that can only play great after screwing up badly.

It is always possible of course that we could be less effective next year but I really think that having more time with CPJ's system will pay dividends next year.

We very well may be less effective on defense but I do expect the offense to be more consistent at least.

You're drawing way too many conclusions off of one game by a team that still hasn't even figured out how to run the offense man.

I was at the game. Perhaps you were, too. The team was pumped. They were ready to play.

Several things happened:
1. It is possible the team, but certainly our fans, underestimated LSU. Our expectations were really out of line. LSU is a very good team that just stunk it up several games this year. They didn't in the CFA.
2. That LSU defense did a good job handling our option. They didn't stop us, but they did slow us down considerably. We still had almost 200 yards in the first half with -2 possessions.
3. It is easy to underestimate what those two lost possessions cost us in terms of offense, and defense, when you consider the HUGE variance in TOP in the 2nd quarter.
4. Had our ST's played even normally, that game plays out as a 17-6 or maybe 24-10 kind of game. Had a break or two gone our way, it may have been a very tight game. Don't let the score deceive you. Our D got a few nice stops in the first half, and several in the second.
5. In reality, we gave them 21 points: The punt fumble on our 18, the faked punt on our 22, and the line drive punt returned inside our 40.

38-3 is very much not indicative of our play. Not to say we played well, but we did not play that badly.

Agreed...

LSU dominated us on the line of scrimmage and they capitalized on our turnovers with TD's. It was the same exact theme in the rest of our losses. VT, Uva, and UNC all dominated the line of scrimmage and cashed in our turnovers with TD's.
I think our "problems" are the O-line needs to get better and our Defense has to get better at defending the short field.
The O-line WILL get better in '09 with depth and experience.
I am worried about the defense though. I know we were young and had injuries, but we couldnt stop the run or pass in the second half of the season (except the Patrick Nix project).

I was there--yeah it STUNK--but it would only have been a cherry (a BIG one granted) on top of a really great season--looking forward to a NC in the NEAR future!

I just wanted to add that there is an unwritten statistic that cannot be measured: momentum. It is the most important statistics in sports. LSU had momentum in the beginning of the game and we couldn't stop their P=mv (nerdy joke). The score was quite deceiving of what really happened.

Next year out success rests on the O-line more than any other part of our team ... that's just my opinion.

It was a bad night and I made a short night of it. It bothered me for a few days --that the game went the way it did, that I left at the half, that we lost by such a lopsided margin.

But I'm over it now although I hate that GT dropped another L into the bowl loss column. It was a season that did go beyond my high-end expectations of seven wins.

GT defeated FSU, tied for the Coastal division, played some exciting and entertaining football, and most of all of course --beat UGA. GT defeated the pre-season #1 team in Athens, rolling up 409 rushing yards in the process.

Any season that includes all of the above --with nine wins-- is a successful one. Particularly when you remember that this was CPJ's inaugural season on The Flats. Good times are ahead for us fellas.

I agree with your sentiments however, we did play badly. All those things that happened were because of poor play or poor coaching. Certainly LSU should be congratulated for playing well (4th string QB starts the game 12 for 12, 180 yards!).

I wish we could play LSU and VPI again, but we can't. If we want to be a consistent Top 15 team, we have to learn to play well every minute of every game.

DT's poor mechanics cost us a throwing TD early and the game could have been different. I'm not putting this all on DT, just using an example of how little things were not executed well and the snowball effect occurred. But we are too blame, we played poorly.

Yes, we had a remarkable year considering. Have we ever beaten Clemson, UGA, FSU, and Miami in the same year (not to mention surprisingly strong BC)?

We will get better at protecting the ball I hope. We will get better in the OL I hope. We will protect the QB when throwing I hope. We will get healthy at LB (or can Sylvester/Munroe/Machen do some pushing?), I hope. We will improve at DB, I hope.

I sense some real star playmakers returning in Josh, Dwyer, DT, Burnett, Jones, Taylor, Reid, and Morgan. But we have to play better to inch up the rankings.
