comments on the Pits Bowl II.
Would appreciate it.
Thx.
Well said and I agree. Thank you for your response.I hate it for the Seniors but you gotta tip your hats to them, they gave it their all this season and did better then most thought we would. They took us into the new era with this new regime and started it off right.
Thanks Dems...... Unless the B-ball team circles the wagons quickly its going to be a long winter. I can't wait for spring practice, when does it begin???
Hey, GT baseball's a top-15 preseason team... for what that's worth. Ask UGA.
Coach Hall is a great man and great coach (I know him personally) and I pull for GT in all sports, but I'm just not a baseball fan. I will keep up with the team and watch games vs UGay and postseason games and thats about it.
It's bad enough that the seniors had to go out on a sour note like that, but has anyone else noticed that those seniors never won a bowl game? The other thing is that it does look like a bright future, but I think this game could signal clouds on the horizon. Not necessarily because of the lost, but of how it was lost. The reason things looked so bright exiting the season was because of our last two games, which we played very well in. It had seemed the inconsistencies of effort and execution from the early part of the season was behind us. It was because of youth and a new system. But what now? It is entirely possible that next season could be the same or worse. There is no guarantee that our guys will play more consistently as juniors or seniors. Just look at Maryland, they were senior heavy and played schizophrenically. I'm just worried that we might not be better than a team that can only play great after screwing up badly.
I was at the game. Perhaps you were, too. The team was pumped. They were ready to play.
Several things happened:
1. It is possible the team, but certainly our fans, underestimated LSU. Our expectations were really out of line. LSU is a very good team that just stunk it up several games this year. They didn't in the CFA.
2. That LSU defense did a good job handling our option. They didn't stop us, but they did slow us down considerably. We still had almost 200 yards in the first half with -2 possessions.
3. It is easy to underestimate what those two lost possessions cost us in terms of offense, and defense, when you consider the HUGE variance in TOP in the 2nd quarter.
4. Had our ST's played even normally, that game plays out as a 17-6 or maybe 24-10 kind of game. Had a break or two gone our way, it may have been a very tight game. Don't let the score deceive you. Our D got a few nice stops in the first half, and several in the second.
5. In reality, we gave them 21 points: The punt fumble on our 18, the faked punt on our 22, and the line drive punt returned inside our 40.
38-3 is very much not indicative of our play. Not to say we played well, but we did not play that badly.
