Tech at USF Predictions

Ugh...computer models/numberfire have *gulp* USF as the better team outright, much less recommending to take the money line.

I think that USF was likely prepping all offseason for this game and would explain why they looked pedestrian against Elon. I'm going to go w/Marshall making a few plays and the D (finally!) getting a needed stop or 2. I'll go 28-27 GT.

Side question--any reason that we are playing this team on the road? Is it a 2 for 1 deal?

It is cheaper than paying them a couple million to come here for a one and done, and fills an easy win on the schedule for two years.

USF lowest scoring game last year was against Houston at 24 points. I think predicting less than 24 points is a good as guess as any.

The new QB for USF should be a challenge for our secondary, but their QB last year, Quinton Flowers, was a great dual-threat athlete that racked up lots of records and awards (see link). I think it's likely that USF will have a significantly less potent offense this year, and the new guy might be a more manageable threat for our new defense. But most of my optimism centers on our offense creating trouble for the current USF defense.

Just went over to their board and they are talking about how they will beat us badly

Beating us badly sounds like a reach, but the computer models have them by 3. What I almost *always* worry about playing teams like this is that GT *always* looks surprised when the other team is full of intensity and ready to play. Seems the team never learns as this has been going on for decades, regardless of the coach.

These the same computers that had Trump losing? Computers are for porn, stingtalk and the occasional work or school project.

Jackets might lose on your mac but we're going to beat that ass starting at noon tomorrow. On the bright side it will be nice to see Tobias get more reps in the 4th when we rest Marshall.

No, these are models that run thousands of simulations of each game. What I don’t know is whether it is relying on data from last season as the teams wouldn’t be connected yet in most models with one game played.

Still, it said USF wins by 3, not 20. GT has a solid chance to win—especially if they realize the other opponent is going to be fired up and ready to play.

I don't worry about computers. If I was USf I would be more worried about getting gashed for almost 200 yards on the ground by Elon.

I would question how good the data is for computer models. The numbers for GT might be OK since we are a team with many returning players, but USF has an almost completely new group of starters this year, so where does the data come from? FWIW, here is USF's W/L records going back to 2014:

2017 10-2
2016 11-2
2015 8-5
2014 4-8

That looks like a team that had a group of really good athletes for a few years, and might have to rebuild. I would guess the computer data just looks at the previous season's matchups. They are probably going to disappoint their fans this year. Then again, maybe USF can reload and keep it going.
