Tech fan behavior...

I am sure I will get flamed for this...but here it goes.

I am a bit confused. Many GT fans spend time year after year talking about how obnoxious UGA fans are....and other schools in the SEC primarily.

Yet...we win a game against UGA and I see posts bragging on multiple sites of face to face interactions where we mock a UGA fan, yell one of their or our slogans at them, one where someone started a fight, etc. etc.

This is really beyond belief to me. All you have to do is wear your darn gear and walk right by them...that is enough...nothing more has to be said. They know they lost...deep down they are concerned about coming years against us...they wonder if momentum has turned.

I got a call yesterday from a UGA colleague that finally had to end the wait. He talked a lot the past seven years...a very biased UGA and SEC fan...as I always lightly made my case for our Jackets and the ACC. In years past he would make a call, come to my office, or send in email shortly after their victory.

However...this year I did not return that favor. I decided to do nothing...and I have not been to that office all week. He said it was horrible...like when he was a child and was in trouble and his mother made him wait for his father to come home. he had to call to issue the congrats and end the inevitable when we would see each other in the office.

I do not share this because I am any better than anyone else...just to say you do not have to be mouthy about it.

Simply walk tall, wear your gear proudly, be humble in victory...do not stoop to their level.

I know the majority of GT fans are this way....I just see too many posts bragging of behavior thay many of those same people claim they hated about UGA fans.

As Coach Johnson said himself, act like you are supposed to win!

If we tell them to kiss our Johnson, is that going too far?

love,

I sat in Section 332, row 15 last Saturday. This is on about the 45yard line in the deck just below the press box behind the UGa bench. Needless to say, I was somewhat outnumbered!!

I was struck by a couple of things during the game.

First, there were lots of empty seats around me, showing that UGa fans are not as rabid as they are made out to be.

Second, the people around me were knowledgeable football fans who cheered their team heartily and jeered ours almost as heartily, but with respect due a worthy opponent.

During halftime, as I waited in line for the bathroom, there was some of the usual jawwing, but nothing extraordinary in terms of the woofing I expected.

As the third quarter (and the rest of the game) began to unfold, the fans around me kind of looked on in shock and with a bit of respect for what was happening to their team on the field. (Quite frankly, I was a bit in shock myself, but also a bit more pleased.) One guy (and only one) continued to bark at every big play, while the rest of the folks around me appeared to be coming to the slow realization that this wasn't going to be their day.

As I walked down from the seats to the concourse while the players were kneeling at midfield, the people around me all said "Good game", "Congrats", "You whipped us good" or words to that effect. I just smiled and said thanks and that it has been a long 7 years. One older fella heard me and said "At least you didn't have to live through 8 like I did." I thought the whole scene was a little surreal, but fans from both teams were behaving in the manner that hiverd suggests above, and it was enjoyable. It is te reason that I like college sports, and it was nice to have that affirmed in some small way.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this week. Most of the folks I interact with regularly are not dog fans, so there was no reason or place for me to be a classless jerk!

By the way, my father (UGA '58) attended the game with me and also commented on the different feel at this game. His last visit with me at Grant Field was in '05, and quite frankly it was unbearable for both of us as people around us - both good guys and bad - were acting like classless jerks.

It is great to win, and to me it is even more fun to win with class.

GO JACKETS!!

All I have been saying is, "Georgie had a good first half, Tech had a great second half."

:laugher: Again, please, someone show me the classless acts that caused this post to be made?

New poster here. Been a GSU and Tech fan for many years. The UGA fans know that PJ with own them so they are keeping they mouths shut.

Great Post, Hivered. +++

I think obnoxious boasting is perfectly fine for students. If students want to go back and forth with each other, quite likely under the heavy influence of the alcohol they have consumed, I find that perfectly normal behavior for 18-22 year olds. I think it is wrong for them to be onoxious toward older adults, children, women, etc. But, as a student, I enjoyed my back and forth with Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, and UGA students.

What is not acceptable is when adults continue to act like twenty year olds. Increasingly interaction with adult fans of other schools has been hostile. The worst I've seen is in Raleigh, where my very quiet wife, minding her own business, has been treated with a rudeness bordering on assault for wearing a Tech sweatshirt in the sea of Wolfpack red.

So, this is a timely post. For those of us older than in early twenties, we need to win and lose with class and dignity and teach our children to do the same. Within the family we can boast and brag all we want. But toward others, we need to behave. After all, our satisfied smiles will bug a Dawg far more than our smack-talk.

great post

As PJ said "act like you expect to win"

Despite what I just said about not saying anything, I have had some fun conversations with my boss, who went to ugag (before you joke, she's in her 30s and i'm 24, so it's allowed... for now).

Today, I designed a website and used navy and gold/yellow as the colors and this IM conversation followed:

boss: and you need to change that offensive tech site
me: haha
offensive like good offense?
boss: offensive like politically incorrect
me: i'm working on it now
boss: :)
me: i'm thinking orange and blue
boss: I am thinking of hiring a different designer
me: haha nice

I didnt rub it in to any of my friends but there are a couple of annoying uga fans at work that still talk trash who i rub it into everyday!!!

GSU has gone to the championship game 3 times in a row TWICE.

Too bad we lost one each of the times.

We won back to back championships three times, i'll take that over 3 in a row any day.

And yes, it does look like #4 will be hanging in Boone later this month :(

Well, I don't talk too much, but I can't stay away from mentioning that CPJ is not happy yet and that we are the 2nd youngest team. You know, nothing like seeing them even more afraid.

I love talking garbage. Its just my nature.

So I'm going to call out UGA fans who like to talk smack...and Im gonna rub it into their face all day and night.

Of course this will end soon with me flaming every UGA fan on the earth, but for now...ITS ON.

I dont talk a lot of sh*t to my UGA friends, I just smile.
