Tech fan behavior...

Here's my take:

I know a lot of U[sic]GA grads. I've not emailed, called, texted, or said jack about our win to any of them.

But I also know a lot of U[sic]GA bandwagon fans who have absolutely no affiliation with the school or any immediate family ties to anyone who went there. They root for U[sic]GA because 1.) they live in Georgia, and the school has the same name. 2.) they think ugly, wrinkled, inbred, baked-good droppers are cute. 3.) they have homo-erotic fantasies about a three-way with Fred from the B-52s and Michael Stipe. 4.) they think that we suck.

As far as I'm concerned, this later group is fair game. Abuse away. They deserve it!

I stopped at my watering hole today and didn't say a word, about 15 minutes later a few pissed off nadlickers congratulated me and couldn't believe I wasn't saying anything. My response: SILENCE IS GOLDEN!

Dear Mr. Mover,
ArchiTECH knows that in your heart you want to kick their sorry collective ass similar to your exchange with a certain Mr. Perry of Clemson back in the day.

You know ArchiTECH is right...come on now, say ArchiTECH is right...you can do it...

love,
ArchiTECH

Yeah baby, stoop to their level. Classless!
We are above those ass holes.

I am sure I will get flamed for this...but here it goes.

I am a bit confused. Many GT fans spend time year after year talking about how obnoxious UGA fans are....and other schools in the SEC primarily.

Yet...we win a game against UGA and I see posts bragging on multiple sites of face to face interactions where we mock a UGA fan, yell one of their or our slogans at them, one where someone started a fight, etc. etc.

This is really beyond belief to me. All you have to do is wear your darn gear and walk right by them...that is enough...nothing more has to be said. They know they lost...deep down they are concerned about coming years against us...they wonder if momentum has turned.

I got a call yesterday from a UGA colleague that finally had to end the wait. He talked a lot the past seven years...a very biased UGA and SEC fan...as I always lightly made my case for our Jackets and the ACC. In years past he would make a call, come to my office, or send in email shortly after their victory.

However...this year I did not return that favor. I decided to do nothing...and I have not been to that office all week. He said it was horrible...like when he was a child and was in trouble and his mother made him wait for his father to come home. he had to call to issue the congrats and end the inevitable when we would see each other in the office.

I do not share this because I am any better than anyone else...just to say you do not have to be mouthy about it.

Simply walk tall, wear your gear proudly, be humble in victory...do not stoop to their level.

I know the majority of GT fans are this way....I just see too many posts bragging of behavior thay many of those same people claim they hated about UGA fans.

As Coach Johnson said himself, act like you are supposed to win!
Great post Hivered. I have some great UGA fans as friends and our behavior insults me.
We need to get rid of our scholl yell "To Hell With Georiga." It makes us look like morons. When I was at the ACCCG in 2006, there were 4 or 5 Tech students in armlock, walking in the stadium concourse yelling "To Hell With Georgia"! Wake fans were looking at them as if they did not know who we were playing. I was embarrassed to say the least.

OK, you're right. But I vowed not too fight the nadlickers again after the 99 episode. I just walk away, unless I'm spit on.

Yeah, then after that maybe we can get rid of our fight songs, our mascot, and change our school colors to blue and green.

Saying something like that makes you look like a moron.

Great Post, Hivered. +++

I think obnoxious boasting is perfectly fine for students. If students want to go back and forth with each other, quite likely under the heavy influence of the alcohol they have consumed, I find that perfectly normal behavior for 18-22 year olds. I think it is wrong for them to be onoxious toward older adults, children, women, etc. But, as a student, I enjoyed my back and forth with Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, and UGA students.

What is not acceptable is when adults continue to act like twenty year olds. Increasingly interaction with adult fans of other schools has been hostile. The worst I've seen is in Raleigh, where my very quiet wife, minding her own business, has been treated with a rudeness bordering on assault for wearing a Tech sweatshirt in the sea of Wolfpack red.

So, this is a timely post. For those of us older than in early twenties, we need to win and lose with class and dignity and teach our children to do the same. Within the family we can boast and brag all we want. But toward others, we need to behave. After all, our satisfied smiles will bug a Dawg far more than our smack-talk.
Great post. It is one thing for the kids to act like 20 years old but it is absurd for grown men to behave like that. It may very well be a sign of the times we live in. On the other hand, I wonder if most of the boorish behavior at college football games by middle aged men is due to "subway alumni" and the usual run of trailer trash that go to UGA games but never darkened the door of a classroom.

I just found this forum (where have I been)??!! I've been a Tech fan for approx. 37 years. I was more than thrilled at our victory over UGA. My brothers are die-hard UGA fans and they said nothing to me. In fact, they made sure I knew that it was only the first time in 7 years that we won. In fact, I couldn't even get a "good game" out of any of them. It was, "well, it doesn't matter, it's your first time in 7 years and we're going to a bowl game anyway"....

Most UGA fans I've met are NOT humble people, but are sore losers and cannot seem to bring themselves to say, "hey, great game - congrats on the win". I did not brag either, but I did wear my Tech gear when I went out shopping or running errands and passed many UGA fans that just passed me by or gave me a look. People can be so petty.

My daughter, however, did rub it in her friend's faces. At first, they wouldn't even answer her phone calls or return her text messages, but she didn't care - she just kept on giving them a hard time! I would say she did enough for the two of us!!

We have a right to be proud and I think that this may be a change in momentum and I think UGA fans know it!!

I'll admit I went back and forth with some UGAy fans the night we won (they started it and I was intoxicated) still by the end of the night we were actually being nice and talking about the game, but that has been the only time. I have been pretty quiet overall with my UGAy friends and have actually had some decent conversations about the game with no boasting.

Perspective, I guess. If you get the doors blown off, you're more likely to be humble and just man up and admit that the other team was better. But if the game is close, you start looking inward at yourself and perhaps fail to give credit where credit is due.

Hence the nadlickers not giving us our proper respect, because we only won by a FG. Hence us bitching about close losses to VPI, UVA & UNC based on silly turnovers.

Maybe we'll win by a larger margin next year and they'll actually man up and admit we're better. Meanwhile, don't hold your breath.

On the Tech fan behavior, the only time I have been real embarrassed was at the ACCCG against WF. About 20 kids, look to be frat and sor kids were absolutely making fools out of themselves. Finally had to say something because my daughter sitting there and the kid actually wanted to fight until I stood up and those around me stood up.

Kids, if you can't handle your liquor it's a sign you don't need to drink.
