What's up with all the negativity with our fan base? I don't mean that we are negative about our team, but about the outside's perceptions of it. It seems like all we do it bitch and moan about the lack of respect the AJC, ESPN, Heather Dinich, etc. are showing us. Multiple times people have said that we weren't on SportsCenter or College Football Live, when in fact we were. On SportsCenter last night, we were the third highlight, and they only showed one positive FSU play (the sick TD catch). They showed Dwyer's long TD, Marcus Wright's TD, The Theft (twice), and Nesbitt's TD run.

There are two reasons we don't get the respect we want. First, we haven't been an elite program in many years. A good program, yes, but not elite. We haven't won a conference title since 1998. Name another program that hasn't won a conference title since 1998 that gets as much respect as us. Clemson yes, and maybe Missouri and Michigan State. And Missouri was ranked #1 just two years ago. The other reason is directly related to the first reason - we think we deserve more respect.

This post isn't meant to criticize our fans. It's good to think we deserve more respect. But bitching about not getting respect only makes us look desperate. Don't rely on the old crutches: our fan base is too small, ESPN only cares about the SEC (and USCw, Ohio State and Michigan, OU and Texas, and Notre Dame), etc. (Side note: When you say that ESPN only cares about the SEC, and then you add in the elite teams from other conferences, it's clear that ESPN cares about teams that are doing well. Sure, they will cater to large fan bases or teams who have been historically good - and by historically good I don't mean the 1950s - but they will talk about teams who are doing well).

Basically, stop acting like the little brother. We finally have a coach who believes in who we are and doesn't give a **** what others think. Maybe we should do the same.

+1

I've been saying all along that if we keep winning we will get the respect that cmes with it. For GT, yesterdays win was broke a huge negative streak for us and was a big deal. For anyone else, yesterday was a game that WE SHOULD HAVE WON anyway vs an unranked team that is a shell of it's former self. Asking for more respect for yesterdays win is like a child asking to be rewarded for cleaning his room.

We are ranked exactly where we should be, and I see plenty of our highlights on tv.

I made the "ASKING if we weren't on SportsCenter" post. I went to bed after the game finished. I did not watch SportsCenter after 1AM because I was dead tired. I wake up at 8. Turn on ESPN for Sports Center at about 8:10. By 8:50 I was fed up that I had seen multiple segments on the Texas game and Florida game (the radio calls, the highlights, the analysis, interviews with players and coaches). By 9:00 Outside the Lines was on and I had not seen any GT highlights. So I asked why we weren't on SC.

I have nothing wrong with bitching about ESPN. It's not just us who isn't getting respect, it's VT. They were talking about VT yesterday at 1 PM on the College Football show and said that VT is only successful because they are in the ACC and they won't get into the National Championship even if they go undefeated unless if there are 2 loss teams around. Most of our bitching is directed towards ESPN about general biases, not about GT specific biases. Apparently you like ESPN and are an ESPN apologist. Personally, I don't enjoy the retarded bantering of Dr. Lou and Mark May who think the best teams in the country outside of the SEC (they honestly had a segment on this crap) are USCw and Texas.

And for the record. I don't think GT deserves much respect. We have to continuously put out 10+ win seasons to garner respect. Most of may disgust is directed towards ESPN's unfounded biases.

Yeah, we need some 10-win seasons before we can ever expect to be covered constantly on ESPN and pepped up by Dinich... I think it's totally possible

This post wasn't only about your OP. It was about the posts that followed bitching about the general lack of respect we get. It was about all the times I've seen people write things complaining that the AJC hates us, everyone hates us, etc. This wasn't supposed to be an attack on you.
