WTH was that "illegal TOUCHING" penalty towards the end of the game?
We lined up wrong so the guy who caught it wasn't an eligible receiver, I believe.

Then call it that. But the ref called it "illegal touching". I thought he said illegal SUBSTITUTION, but those around me set me straightWe lined up wrong so the guy who caught it wasn't an eligible receiver, I believe.
Had the ball gone to another receiver, the penalty would have changed to illegal player downfield. Still a penalty. Then call it that. But the ref called it "illegal touching". I thought he said illegal SUBSTITUTION, but those around me set me straight

I have never heard that term used before, and virtually everyone around me was laughing at the call and wondering wth it was. They were all asking who touched whom where? In the crotch? LOLCall it what? The penalty was illegal touching. Illegal touching is when a player who isn't an eligible receiver is the first to touch a forward pass.
Which would have been better as that doesnt come with a loss of down. His best throw of the night too, lolHad the ball gone to another receiver, the penalty would have changed to illegal player downfield. Still a penalty.

That was the part that got me. It's a rare call so didn't even realize there were any besides intentional grounding that came with that. Seems unusually harsh for that kind of rule break.

it makes sense, along with forward laterals, it has the potential to be abused if it didnt come with a loss of down. That was the part that got me. lol its what Ive always called them, and i think its actually common to hear them called that due to the context it usually gets called, even if the penalty is actually illegal forward pass.Forward laterals?
Forward laterals?
Jumbo shrimp, military intelligence etc…Forward laterals?

Equivalent of a lineman going downfield and catching a pass. The TE was covered up in the formation, so he was only allowed to stay in and block like a lineman. Not able to go downfield at all. Illegal touching is 5 yds and loss of down I think... whereas ineligible downfield would have only been 5 yards and repeat the down. Long story short, it was a pre-snap formational penalty. Blackburn really is the one who caused the penalty.
What exactly is Sims' game?Spot on. As bad as Gibson was, we lost this game in the first half with Sims under center.
We ended up losing by 7 and should have scored at least that many more in the first half.
Sims was not on his game, either. Maybe it was the injury, but either way he was not the same QB from the last two games.
There was was most blatant miss in the history of college football….the defensive pass interference against UVA 10 yds in front of the referee watching the play. There were three bad calls I noticed early in the game. A roughing call on Douse, an obvious missed hold on Charlie Thomas. I can't remember the 3rd
