Defense played great last week. And they have shown improvement as well, given the injuries at very key positions. Prove me wrong.
You’re talking about WF game right?

Let me get this straight. We went 39 minutes without scoring against Bowling Green and you say there's no reason to complain about the offense? Louisville: 30 minutes. Ole Miss: 43 minutes with only a FG. WF: 28 minutes with only 2 FG.

There are most certainly issues on offense. Chalk it up to injuries? Maybe. Chalk it up to playing conservative? Maybe. But the offense is definitely a contributing factor.
uga went quite awhile vs AU Sat too. Our offensive struggles are more related to lack of seasoned OL players which Franklin and Makenney seem to be, but without the seasoned factor. Two ain't enuf, need min of 7 with two of them at least 2nd-3rd team ALL ACC quality. A bruiser RB is missing too for 3rd and 4th down and 1. On D, we are not going to fix it without LBs and pash rushing DEs.

We need all that to score against BG? Because they’re not Auburn.

I'm not sure whether Thacker is fired or demoted matters much. What's the upside to firing him now? You aren't going to go hire a replacement position coach in the middle of the season.
The reason changing defensive coordinators now makes sense to me is that it shows Key recognizes we have a terrible defense and is willing to try to do something about it now. It may or may not do any good, but it at least shows our head coach is not in stubborn denial. If he hadn't done it, I would have felt like he was not seeing what fans are seeing.

Yes, defense played well against WF.
To me, they looked good because they blitzed all game long. If I was a defensive coordinator, I would blitz on almost every play. You would give up some big plays, but you would get enough defensive stops to give your offense a chance to win.

Bigger picture....Thacker's defenses have allowed more points per game than any other DC we have had since at least 1940. GT has only allowed 30+ ppg in 4 seasons since 1940. Thacker's D accounts for 3 of the 4 and was averaging over 30 per game at the time of demotion.

For BG game only....We did not play well on either side of the ball.

27 points should be enough to beat Bowling Green. We had 2 INTs with a pick 6 and a fumble on special teams which is not a formula for success and should have hung 40+ on them. The offense had its worse game of the year.

Excluding downing the ball out at the end of half and end of game, Bowling Green had 5 of 9 drives go over 10 plays and they scored on all 5 of those drives. BG was averaging 3 turnovers per game going into our game and we generated 0 TO's.

Even if we turn one of our 3 & outs into a 10+ play TD drive making the number of plays about even, we still lose the game.

didn't notice as many injuries against BG, but first four games we def seemed to stop play for injuries at much higher rate than opponents. to me seems like a conditioning issue, which is 100% our own fault if so.

Part of an article by Bradley ---

"Sherrer worked at Georgia under Mark Richt and Kirby Smart. He followed Jeremy Pruitt – the two played together at Alabama and were co-workers at Hoover (Ala.) High, Bama and UGA – to Tennessee. That move panned out for nobody. Sherrer lasted one year as DC in Knoxville. He spent the next year as special teams coordinator/linebackers coach. He left for the New York Giants before Pruitt got himself fired for cause. Sherrer spent two years with the Giants. He was let go when Brian Daboll replaced Joe Judge. Sherrer landed here after Key was named permanent head coach. It would be impossible to do worse than Thacker was doing."

I have been drinking my beer since 9 am (It's ok I'm retired) and I have drawn up a defense that I think we help us get a few stops. I call it the 8-6-6. run pass and blitz D. Now I just need to find 20 players who can tackle.

Bigger picture post for the most part. Just a cursory look at O vs D thru FIVE games makes what I posted clear, including last week against BG. A team that scores 27 when the D does squat will probably score more with a few stops. The O could have used a few more quality OL and a 225 ib. RB on 3rd/4th and 6 inches, huh? The OL, LB, and rush DE issues we have will matter no matter who we are playing.

I thought that after I got a 24 on my first thermodynamics test, but I did a 20 on the second one.
I got a 12 on one of my thermo tests and, no joke, got asked to be a TA at the end of the semester because that was well ahead of the curve.

100%

How is our line getting beat by Bowling Green on both sides of the ball? The scheme shouldn't matter. We should have a talent and conditioning level that is in a different tier than Bowling Green. Thacker was the scape goat, but we clearly have more rebuilding to do. It'll be tough b/c the more you lose the harder it'll be to recruit ... tough to pull out of this downward spiral.
