That "Empty Feeling"

i think this is a fair assesment, 7-8 wins and lose again to ugag, that is life with CHAN.
Nevermind the talent and depth issues that he's had to deal with prior to last year.

I'm not going to insult anyone's intellegence by saying he's a top 10 coach in college football but his tenure at GT needs to be viewed fairly. He's made many mistakes in his first few years (years in which we weren't conference champ material based on said depth and talent issues) and for every single mistake (save getting work in for a backup QB) he has taken transparent measures to correct it (axing David Wilson & revamping recruiting philosophy, giving up play calling responsibilities, hiring an up&coming OC, attention to special teams, opening up more to the fans and media, etc). And he still gets very little credit. The team has improved every year (helped by the maturation of the players in the trenches & improved recruiting in those areas).

We have a great foundation of a team this year with few apparent weaknesses. If the first thing you can think of when some mentions weakness is kickoff coverage, you're not in terrible shape. For the first time in Gailey's tenure, we haven't lost a significant contributor in the offseason due to a reason other than graduation (Cord Howard is close but his status is still up in the air). And often times he had to deal with the loss of several contributors due to transfer, academics or injury.

I propose we stop posting on this thread in preparation for the game in just over 24 hours. Feel free to bring it back to the front if said debacle returns.

I think it's natural for these feelings to set in - we've had months to think about all of the reasons we're going to beat ND and have a successful season. Not that the game is upon us, the doubts are setting in.

I lived through the "EMPTY FEELING" when we would win one game a season. 7-5 and another bowl still feels pretty good to me!

We must be patient still. This year will certainly give us more data points to determine where our QB weaknesses have started in the past.

But we still are on probation and every major team that hits those skids fall backward. We have not, which is quite an accomplishment for Chan. Until we are completely off probation and off the effects of probation regardind depth, then we have to stay reasonably patient.

I did fall off the wagon last year with our decisions about QB going all the way back to UNC and before. The next games included very poor decisions by Chan, but considering everything else, 8-4, 7-5 still wouldn't be that bad.

However, 14-0 will feel a whole lot better.

Mid - that was going to be my point. With probation we probably should have had a 3-4 win season in there and didn't. If we had folks would think 7 wins looked pretty good and be excited about things. Instead they find the downside.

I fully get that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. So yes there is reason to be somewhat guarded in optimism. But I also get that those that live in the past don't see the potential that is in front of them. By most objective standards we are a better team now than we were a couple of years ago. Whether that will translate into more wins remains to be seen. But right now I prefer to look forward with a bit more optimism than oh woe is me cause it ain't never gonna change.

I just hate that some people are going to go through this whole season waiting for failure when they could be enjoying what could turn out to be a great year. 25 hours and 5 minutes to go!

I'm feeling pretty full myself. Had some awesome BBQ from Smoke House for lunch.

I have my opinions regarding what has taken place over the past few years --there have been highs --and there have been lows. I do understand the frustration of others --I understand the optimism of others as well.

Last year --as with previous years-- is over.

Tomorrow --3:30 p.m. @ Notre Dame

That is really all that matters to me at this point.

Working from home today and I was just thinking about heading over to Pappy Reds here in Cumming for some BBQ --good call GTTerrific.

Its not that I feel badly about this coming season for what might happen. I've never gone into a season before with negative expectations. But I do expect the bad will happen. I expect the severe disappointment from our fan base coming. I've grown so accustomed to it year to year that for the first time going into a season, its not a matter of IF its a matter of WHEN, and I won't be disappointed when it does.

Its a terrible way to view a season. But its like Pavlov's Dog. You get ingrained the same feeling over and over again, year after year, the dinner bell rings, and I begin to drool before I even see the food. Its just sucky to feel that way, but I can't really help it.

Look, feel how you want. But you say yourself it's a terrible way to view a season. SO WHY THE HELL SHARE IT WITH US? If you're that depressed, keep it to yourself or go get yourself some drugs.

That is what's great about this time of year. Every team controls its own destiny and every fan base is talking about finally getting to that bowl, or finally making the BCS, or finally challenging for a title. That's August and September in college football....and it's great!

now thats a nice way to talk to a fellow jacket fan.

I don't give a rats arse what anyone says. I'm getting nervous already.

It's going to be a great day tomorrow.

Anyone else cutting grass in the morning to pass the time? I hate the anticipation. Christmas for adults is what it is.

I'm ready for some football. just changed the ringer on the cell phone to the Yellowjackets theme.

We always lose games we shouldn't too. I think that'll be UVA this year. :(
Everyone needs to jump off that UVA will beat us band wagon. I live in Charlottesville went to a few games last year and UVA is not a good football team. They have a mobile QB who has no arm. An awful running game, and a middle of the road defense. There defense got better as the year went on but it is not even close to what I would call good. There a .500 ACC team at best and even though we play them at home(there crowd is like a UNC crowd wine and cheese all the way) that is not like going into VThug or Clemson. We will beat UVA no problem. If you need to worry about Maryland or Boston College not UVA.

Hey, man, that's not just a fellow Yellow Jacket fan, that's BOR the ultimate pissed off Yellow Jacket fan. If there's anyone who won't be offended it's him. I think he knows where I'm coming from.

My plan is to be up late tonight (got a date with the GF), sleep in tomorrow, then start drinking around noon.
