That "Empty Feeling"

Everyone needs to jump off that UVA will beat us band wagon. I live in Charlottesville went to a few games last year and UVA is not a good football team. They have a mobile QB who has no arm. An awful running game, and a middle of the road defense. There defense got better as the year went on but it is not even close to what I would call good. There a .500 ACC team at best and even though we play them at home(there crowd is like a UNC crowd wine and cheese all the way) that is not like going into VThug or Clemson. We will beat UVA no problem. If you need to worry about Maryland or Boston College not UVA.
We'll see, but I think you're underrating their defense a little bit. The Cavs offense should suck again this year as it did last year, but that defense was actually pretty stout. In fact, it was the 17th ranked total defense last year. I'm not going to worry about the game too much unless I see UVA improve on offense this year, but it will be a tough game if we don't bring it.

You'll have two sets of fan bases... one that said we improved on the season by having 8 wins and beating UGA and another who will think we should have done that the last 4 years and we've seen no improvement.

Give me an 8 win season that includes a victory over UGA and you can call me Mark Richt. But if you give me 8 wins and and a loss to UGA, don't call me at all.

What I really and reasonably expect is a 10 or more wins including a win over UGA...barring some catastrophe.

Improvement? If a 3.1 caliber student scores consistent 3.4s each quarter, would it be reasonable to look for further improvement from that student? I think its best to examine performance for the past forty years (since Dodd retired) in order to fairly gauge acceptable expectations.

Hey, man, that's not just a fellow Yellow Jacket fan, that's BOR the ultimate pissed off Yellow Jacket fan. If there's anyone who won't be offended it's him. I think he knows where I'm coming from.

That's why I like NC, he calls out bull**** when he smells it.

I think everyone here knows what you mean, BOR. I think everyone's main cause for optimism is the fact that we got rid of that Auburn boy at OC.

It has always been my opinion that Nix lost us the WF game, and probably UGA,..... and probably ND. Let's hope John Bond provides us with some consistently good play-calling.

God, give me a break.. The main cause of optimism is no reggie ball.

Fellas, I'm just telling you that I think we go 8-4 during the regular season. I think we will go to a mid tier bowl and we may win it. Problem is we will have an 8 win season and everyone here will be looking at last year saying we blew our opportunity and because we didn't meet our expectations this year the feeling of the program moving forward will grind to a halt.

.

trust me, bor. Everyone here is going to be thrilled at 8-4. sadly...

I think we will go 5-3 in conference. We will end up 8-4 on the season..... We will tolerate it though because we will beat UGA for the first time.....

I'm not a numbers guy, but does this mean you think Tech loses to Notre Dame today? Because I know you aren't picking Tech to lose to Army or Samford.

If Tech loses I might burn down Manhattan. I noticed a lot of people wearing Notre Dame attire last night and in my drunken state decided it was a good idea to let them know how devastated they would be by 7:00 tonight. It will be much more fun tonight to harass Notre Dame fans after the game.

As you said, get it done Jackets.

Yeah...I think it is tough to gauge Nix's playcalling abilities as he had to work around a very unique situation the second half of the season(below average qb playing injured, best and most hyped receiver in the nation). Don't forget, before the Clemson game, we were having a really great season. At and after the Clemson game, we got to play UNC and Duke then started losing when we played real teams. He was certainly an improvement over Chan calling the plays, in any case.

But there's also no reason to think that Bond won't be better, and we won't have an explosive offense this year. Even if you disregard Reggie and Calvin last year, we still have a better team this year.

Contactbuzz you still high on that great team in Charlottsville UVA??:laugher:

trust me, bor. Everyone here is going to be thrilled at 8-4. sadly...
not this guy.:liar:<<notice what my buddy's holdin up. I'll only bee happy with 9-3(at least) an ACC championship and/or beating UGA. I think ALL of these things are attainable and that we FINALLY have a deep enough team to do it.
btw--losing JWD would bee tough cuz P. Clark will have to play more and I believe he may bee a step down. I really haven't seen enough to judge though.

If we finish 8-4 having kicked ND's ass and beaten UGAy in the same season I will be thrilled.

Contactbuzz you still high on that great team in Charlottsville UVA??:laugher:
You don't have look real hard to see GTs history in C-Ville. Until we escape there with a win, I'm not going to take it for granted. I don't care what happened this weekend.'

We were a much better team a few years ago when we lost on a hook and lateral as the clock expired.

By the way, UVA returns their entire starting OLine, possibly the best TE in the conference, and their QB (who Tenuta owned last year but he did improve as the season wore on). So I'm not going to write off their offense just yet.

You mean that awesome UVA team that lost to Wyoming 23-3?

You know the one. In 2002 we go 7-5 end up in the out west bowl and lose to Fresno St with some of the worst QB play ever seen by a Tech team after getting smoked by UGA 51-7.

In 2003 we go 7-5 and end up on the blue field where we crank out an impressive win against Tulsa. Of course we lost to UGA to end our regular season, but not nearly as bad as before.

In 2004 we grind out another 7 wins, lose to UGA by throwing the ball out of bounds and lobby ourselves into the Champ Sports Bowl where we beat a practically dead Syracuse team with a coach heading out the door.

In 2005 we lose to UGA again because we cannot generate any offense and we go to the Emerald Bowl where we get our clocks cleaned by Utah in the worst bowl loss by any GT team ever. 7 win season and we lost the last 2 games.

In 2006 we look poised to have our best season in almost 20 years. We are 9-2 heading into UGA, where we have our best chance of beating them in 6 years. We flush every opportunity down the drain, handing UGA the win ona silver platter because of inept play calling, inept decision making, and overall questionable coaching. We back that up by going to the ACC championship game and have our first chance since 1990 to win the ACC outright playing Wake Forest of all teams, the cinderella story of college football. Carrying the same offensive philosophy from the UGA game into the Wake game, we totally blow the best opportunity we've had, and they don't come often.

We end up in the Gator Bowl instead of our first birth in a BCS bowl. We start a new QB where we scrap it out with a damn good WVU team just to come up short. The game raised more questions about our program than it gave answers. 3 game losing streak to end the season 9-5.

This year all the pieces seem to be in place. But my empty feeling still resides within me. I think we will go 5-3 in conference. We will end up 8-4 on the season. We won't go back to the Gator, much less a BCS bowl birth, and we will be staring a (GASP) rebuilding year next year. We will look back on the 2006 season as our best opportunity to have done something and we didn't. The empty feeling will grow even more. We will tolerate it though because we will beat UGA for the first time under this coach, and people will point to that as an improvement going forward tolerating more....

Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda.. I'm tired of it.

Get it done Jackets.
