The ACC and Gator Bowl can burn.

AS far as where to have the ACCCG game, I vote HELL NO to Charlotte. They can have it Friday night before SECCG or even better Monday night following for some Monday night football.

Its time to see if Rads has any Nads. If he lets the ACC/Peach/Gator snub the Jackets... he has to take this to court if that is what it appears. Even seek an injunction. If you don't stand up for yourself, noone else will.

And in closing do those dumb asses at the Jville not realize that GT sold out its ACCCG tickets in a hurry. Don't those dumbasses remember that we had about 50K of the 70K seats filled with Gold at the 90 Citrus. Its time for the GT alums who live in the Jax area to start calling and raising hell with the Gator Bowl, sending letters and emails, etc. In fact, I'm going to gatorbowl.com and give them some shiite right now.

Also, go since Toyota is the sponsor for the Gator Bowl, go to their website and bitterly complain. I just emailed Gator Bowl and am headed to Gator Bowl and City of Jax next.

I NEED YOUR HELP. JACKETS UNITE

I think it would be neat to have the ACCCG in Atlanta. They could play the ACCCG game at noon before the SECCG. It would be college football nirvana in a town that actually cares about college football.
I wish we would move it!It would make for one hell of a day in atlanta!!!

I'll threaten to buy a Honda if they don't reconsider. :woot:

I still don't get why people keep suggesting Atlanta for the ACCCG when it would lead to the exact SAME problem that Jacksonville has. Virginia Tech did not travel to the same city twice last year and they have a much larger fan base.

Charlotte is much more centrally located for the ACC and would not have to rely on locals. If the game was in Charlotte, WF would probably bring nearly every live graduate. It's also closer for every team in the ACC except Miami and FSU.

This is Toyota's last year of Gator Bowl sponsorship by the way.

Why the hate for Charlotte rw1? Have you seen the stadium...heads and shoulders about Jax as far as the facility goes. Plus there should never be a problem with the ACCCG runnerup.

Simple. Its in Tobacco Road country.

if we lose to Wake I dont even care at that point where we go. The ACCCG is our real Bowl game.

Every bowl game relies on locals to fill the stadium. If both teams bring 20K which is double the typical 10K guaranteed, the locals still need to buy 20-40K to fill the stadium. People in NC are not that into college football.

Part of the attraction of an event like the ACCG to a city is the new money it will generate for local business and taxes. The proximity of Charlotte to so many different schools is what would make it less attractive to Charlotte relative to other cities and results in a lower bid.

With the airport, Atlanta is one of the most accessable cities where you could have the game. Atlanta is a convention town with plenty of hotel rooms and infrastructure to handle the game. The Georgia Dome is a great venue for this type of event.

JTS,

I lived in Charlotte for 5 years (until 2000) and I disagree completely about not being into college football. The problem is that there isn't a local team and there are fans (that I worked with) from Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC, NC State, Wake, Duke, Clemson, and Georgia Tech. All of whom have large alumni populations. It is an ACC city, while Jax and Atlanta are SEC country. There would be many more walk-up fans that will plop down their $60 for the ACCCG in Charlotte vs. Jax.

The airport argument is a homer one because Charlotte is a hub for US Air with as many direct flights from ACC cities as Atlanta. Ericson Stadium also matches up well with the Georgia Dome. In fact, many fans would prefer an outdoor game. The hotel situation is also a non-starter. Almost any city of that size can handle 20-30k of fans. They manage it for the bowl game.

However, the strongest argument, which you have yet to address, is that it is not the site of one of the top 3 ACC Bowl games. That is the primary reason there is talk of moving it from Jax. Atlanta simply doesn't solve the difficulty of having a team travel to the same city a month apart. It just reverses the Gator/Chicken situation.

Can you address that issue?

Sorry, this is the kind of things gaggers say.

If we lose to WF we go to the Gator which is a great bowl, no not the Orange bowl we all want to go to but still a great one. Hopefully there will be another bowl game on that you can watch if this happens. :laugher:

The problem with the Gator Bowl is that people do not want to go back to Jax to watch their team play a team from the Big Least. People would head back to watch ACC vs. Notre Dame or SEC, but except for maybe Maryland, VT, and BC none of the ACC schools are going to get excited about playing the #2 or #3 Big East. The Peach Bowl does not have this problem. People would come back to watch their team play Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, etc....

I lived in Charlotte and I live in Atlanta. There is a reason that Atlanta is consistently ranked as a Top 10 Convention / Trade Show City and Charlotte is not.

JTS,

So you're saying two CG's on the same weekend in Atlanta would draw more random fans than being in a separate city?

You are also assuming, wrongly, that most of the ACC considers SEC opponents to be special. There isn't a history between Tennessee and Virginia or Maryland or even Clemson for that matter.

You are also, wrongly, asserting that the opponent is the problem when the Gator is looking at Texas right now and still doesn't want us.

You are assuming, wrongly, that Atlanta is such a better city than Jax that people will come back twice.

I have lived in Atlanta and Charlotte and I don't see the difference in holding a convention in either one unless you need 1 million sq. ft. and then there isn't a choice. I'm tired of trying to argue with someone who can't step back and look at the big picture. All of your views are so skewed by personal perception (i.e. Peach is better because it matches the SEC) that having a rational discussion is impossible.

I would like to state, for the record, that JTS is a very rational person.

So much so in fact that it takes him a year and a freakin day to play his turn in cards.

beej67,
less rational than JT

also for the record: I think Charlotte would be a great place for the ACCCG.

Well, I get your point, but Charlotte is really a separate state from the rest of NC. It's as much SC as anything.
