The ball is in PJ's court. He was offered 1.8

Am im the only one that feels that PJ isn't worth $1.8 million?

The entire coaching carousel and the attendant salary escalation has been a bit surprising over the past couple of years. I recall when baseball first confronted free agency and the hue and cry was about how so and so wasn't "worth" the dollars they were looking for. The respective financial "worth" of anyone in any field of endeavor whatsoever is solely predicated on what that specific market determines that it's able to pay at that time for the anticipated value to be received, and it's just that simple.

There's no avoiding the timing, supply and demand aspects of any business endeavor, and that's what we're dealing with right now. As sad as it may seem, the days of Joe Pa are over.

On a side note, I'm extending a sincere "Thanks!" to 1gtfan for posting this info in the first place. While we know that "no good deed goes unpunished", and that there will always be some level of criticism, please continue keeping us as up to date as possible.

NO...but what I think doesn't matter :)

I'll support whoever our coach is, regardless of pay, but he wouldn't have gotten me into a bidding war...

I said yesterday that I might pay 1.7 for him, but not 2.0.

I guess 1.8 is closer to 1.7 than 2. I also heard our offer is 1.5+0.3 worth of incentives. If he achieves all his incentives, and the incentives are the good stuff, like beating UGA and ACCCGs, then he's worth well over 1.8 IMO.

Not at all. I dont see why we should twice the money for a coach with a worse winning percentage.

Yes, thats Hatcher vs Johnson.
I would have to say that it's easier to win at GSU than it is at Navy, given recruits and D1 vs D1AA schedule. Either one is fine with me though. PJ does have D1A experience, is used to working with recruiting limitations, and is used to being in the Nat'l spotlight though.

Umm no. i'm fine with him if Drad wants him and if we pay him not a penny more than what Gailrey made (which won't happen because I think Navy pays him that much).

Offering a decent college coach that mich money makes no sense to me. We needed a young, undervalued, enthusiastic, sales guy who is a heckuva coach to come in here for $1 million a year and get large bonuses once he proved what he could do.

GT is in/was in a financial crisis so now we are going to pay $2.5 million a year in slaaries the next 4 years for maybe one of the top 30 coaches in the country who has a penchant for running the triple option????

Hatch or Muschamp or Turner Gill make a LOT more sense IMO. Mainly, though we need to trust the AD who saved our bacon financially. Why did he do all that work to change our business model only to have it ruined by board members?

thanks for pointign this out. Winning at GSU is easy, as easy as winning at UGA. You should win 70% of your games by fielding a team.

and those guys are just falling off the trucks right?

I gave you three names but I can come up with more if you want. BTW, one of the names is who our AD recommended for the job. so we have all of the above that we need, 1. If we need mroe than one head coach, then we'll go find another one but last i checked you only needed one at a time.

Not so fast guys...

We are rumored to have offered him 1.5 and .3 in incentives. Unless the incentives are "fill out expense reports in a timely manner" BS types, then we need to talk base not max.

If he earns the incentives he will be worth what we pay for sure.

Wierd enough, I said he was worth 1.5 plus .3 to .5 last night. If the $2 mark helps his ego, throw another .2 on there for a MNC. I still think so.

On the other note, Hatch has one season at 7-4 compared to multiple championships for PJ at the exact same school so PJ might just be worth .5 to .8M more than Hatch based on info available now.

I don't know about that GTCrew. Hatcher just got there and is rebuilding the program. You can't compare what he's done in one year to what pj did in his tenure there. Not saying we shouldn't hire pj just don't think it's a fair comparison.

But in the end it's not about what someone is worth. It's about what they can command in the open market. Hatch would come cheaper because he's not as well known and doesn't have multiple suitors.

From what I can gather, GTCrew is correct....

$1.5M + $0.3M in incentives that are apparently difficult to reach... his offer at SMU is supposedly $2.1M or more, but I'm not sure about the incentive structure...

At Navy, he makes $1M plus I believe $0.5M bonus, making it $1.5M total, so he could potentially make the same amount of $$$ here. It seems that these financial details/incentives are what's delaying the process for SMU, GT, and Navy...

My only thought is that if the big $$$ guys who apparently (but not definitively) ousted WM, and who stepped up to buyout CCG, are really interested in PJ, they should "pony" up to personally outbid SMU and get the guy they want..... or sit back and let D-Rad have his choice at a more affordable level.

$2M/year for PJ would be insane IMO...

Hell, if the incentives are that difficult to reach, I'd throw more money into the incentives.

1.5 base
+.1 for 8 or more wins
+.1 for UGA
+.1 for Coastal Div
+.1 for ACC Championship
+.1 for BCS Bowl Appearance
+.1 for BCS Bowl Win
+.1 for Heisman Trophy
+.1 for Dodd Coach of the Year (something he already won once)
+.7 for National Championship

Pile em on. I'm happy to pay 3 million for a national championship team with a Heisman trophy.
