The ball is in PJ's court. He was offered 1.8

Pile em on. I'm happy to pay 3 million for a national championship team with a Heisman trophy.

I agree and I think PJ could bring us a MNC. One question - who is the Heisman Candidate? Is Calvin coming back? :fingersx:

If Georgia Tech ever has a national championship, you better believe whoever our QB happens to be will be in the Heisman race.

Not in 1990.

The top 6 in balloting were:

Ty Detmer
Rocket Ismail
Eric Bienemy
Shawn Moore
David Klingler
Herman Moore

BYU, ND, COL, HOU, and 2(!!!) from UVA

It's true that GSU is in a pretty enviable recruiting position. But I would argue that winning at GSU is easy partially because Paul Johnson helped make it that way.

Of their 6 national titles, he is largely responsible for the first two and completely responsible for the last two. He was the OC, under a defensive-guru HC, when GSU first became dominant. And his last stint there was among the most dominant in 1AA history.

Then there's Navy. PJ is responsible for all Navy success since George Welsh went to Virginia. Weatherbie's Navy teams were horrible without Paul Johnson. The difference PJ made for Weatherbie was MUCH bigger than the difference Fridge made for O'Leary.

PJ was at Navy in 1995 and 1996. They went 9-35 the 4 seasons before his arrival. When PJ got there they went 5-6 in 95 and 9-3 in 96. They fell to 7-4 the year after he left while continuing to run his offense; then continued to decline going 1-20 in 2000-1.

He arrived again in 2002, and Navy went 2-10. Subsequently they are 43-19.

Different system entirely in 1990. In 1990, the ACC was really no different than a Mid Major, because of its public perception, and we backed our way into a share of the NC. If we get another one, under the current system, you better believe we'll get some publicity.

I don't know about that GTCrew. Hatcher just got there and is rebuilding the program. You can't compare what he's done in one year to what pj did in his tenure there. Not saying we shouldn't hire pj just don't think it's a fair comparison.

But in the end it's not about what someone is worth. It's about what they can command in the open market. Hatch would come cheaper because he's not as well known and doesn't have multiple suitors.

Ironically if I understand correctly, he is 'rebuilding' from the damage a 'hot' DC from an SEC school did as a HC in only one year...

True and false. A little false because the ACC landed two from one team in the voting...

but mostly true because the votes for the finalists occur early. We know who is going to NY already. And you can't win a championship from a fringe of the top bowl nowadays (in theory).

Although if LSU beat Ohio State by one, and Hawaii beat UGA 75 to 0, they could win a lesser poll.

Trooooooooooof.

And now that "DC" is in Atlanta. Bet he's enjoying his stint there :laugher:
