The hedges see him coming

I think our team had to do a lot with the win, but, OK, thanks for my new hedges, Kirby (see avatar).

Right now, he too is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Smart clearly hasn’t “turned the ship” yet, to use his metaphor.

I think the ship has turned from the direction Richt was taking the program. Good thing they got rid of one of their best coaches so they could hire a coord from bama.

^ time will tell, but it's certainly not the start they wanted with as easy a schedule as they had this year. The thing I don't understand is the "bare cupboard" talk. They've got one of the more talented rosters in the country - if you can't tweak your system to the players you have then you're not a very good football coach.

Any coach deserves at least 3 years assert his will into the program. But if he goes 1-3 or worse against Tech, UF, UT, and Auburn again in '17 he's going to be under an awful lot of pressure. Here's to hoping they fired a guy who was 13-2 against us for a guy who goes winless.

I think to call UGA's loss a meltdown is a severe overreaction. Both teams showed the ability to strike back, and both teams showed the ability to get some stops today. UGA scored 5 times, we scored 4 times. It just so happens that we got more TDs. Paul made some gutsy calls today. Some worked, and some didn't.

Anyone that tries to place blame on any single player or coach is a ööööing idiot.
You gotta admit, Chaney's pass call on 2nd down with 3+ minutes to go was a big reason we won that game. We couldn't stop the run. Why throw there?

Lol, our's didn't.

"On December 7, 2007, Johnson accepted the head coaching job at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Johnson, who came to Georgia Tech in December after a six-year tenure at Navy, inherited a young roster with reduced numbers because of an NCAA probation. Only 76 players were on scholarship, below the maximum of 85, including three senior walk-ons who were awarded scholarships prior to the start of the season. The roster included 75 freshmen and sophomores; 16 of 22 starters were underclassmen. Sports Illustrated predicted Johnson's first Yellow Jacket team would win three games and finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.

In 2008, Johnson led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to a 9–4 record. Georgia Tech was 6–1 at home in games played at Bobby Dodd Stadium and 4–2 against ranked opponents, including three wins in November against Florida State, Miami, and Georgia. Georgia Tech, ranked 14th in the BCS standings and 15th in the AP Poll, finished the regular season with a 9–3 record."

Are we ever close to 85 anyway? About 80 sounds right for any year.

It is what it is.

It wasn't a bad call. We had been stopping their run. It was 2nd and 8 was it not? And they punted the previous possession I believe. It was a terrible throw and we got the benefit of the tipped ball that we didn't get against Pitt.

I agree - what I saw was a great football game with both sides playing hard until the end. I didn't see a meltdown. We got the ball with 9:30 to play down two scores. Our scoring drives were 1:44, 1:21 headed into that drive. It's not like we weren't hitting big plays. There was plenty of time to get a TD, stop, TD.

Now that I've had time to review the details, I am even more certain that the pass call wasn't a bad one. Beginning with 5:21 to go in the 3rd Q, UGA had 10 rushing attempts for 28 yards. Here they are:

G 1-10 G27 Sony Michel rush for 4 yards to the UGA31
G 2-6 G31 Sony Michel rush for no gain to the UGA31
G 1-10 T32 Nick Chubb rush for 1 yard to the GT31
G 2-9 T31 Riley Ridley rush for 5 yards to the GT26
G 2-10 T19 Nick Chubb rush for 4 yards to the GT15
G 1-10 G49 Nick Chubb rush for 2 yards to the GT49
G 2-8 T49 Nick Chubb rush for 3 yards to the GT46
G 1-10 G25 Sony Michel rush for 3 yards to the UGA28
G 2-7 G28 Sony Michel rush for 4 yards to the UGA32
G 1-10 G38 Sony Michel rush for 2 yards to the UGA40

So, on a 2nd down and long it was reasonable to try a short passing play similar to the one that they had gotten the first down on at 3rd and 6 a few plays ago.

Well I'm glad they threw it there and we made the play. Proud of our guys for not giving up. Can't say the same for my household.

Their last TD drive in the 3rd quarter started at their 33. They ran the ball 5 times right at us for a TD, with one facemask penalty against us. Runs of 11, 29 (another 15 tacked on the end for facemask), 8, 2, 3 yard TD run by Chubb. It was then I figured the game was over. 2009 repeating itself. Chubb and Michel alternate running the ball until the game is over.

Not to diminish our defense, because they really stepped it up, but UGAg really tried to outthink themselves and we took advantage. UGAg should have been drive blocking and running Chubb and Michel the rest of the game.

We were also helped by the fact that Eason is a big ol pussy. If UGAg would stop running that old pro offense and join the rest of college football with a dynamic mobile QB, they might be something. College is moving away from having a statue at QB. Alabama, GT, Louisville, Clemson, Washington, even Mississippi State yesterday....are all moving towards a QB with some wheels. Alabama made the jump this year. Punking Kirby after he left, perhaps? He doesn't seem real bright.

Still not a good call, with the lead, on 2nd down. Throw it on third down. But at the end of the day, Jesus Eason wasn't able to hit a wide open man.

So, you are saying that they should run when we think they are going to run and pass when we think they are going to pass? You'd make a great coach.

You pointed out specific plays late in the game where we stymied their run, but left out the entire game where they torched us on the ground. Give it to Michel.

In addition to what has been discussed, even if they do get stuffed on the run twice more, it's still 40 seconds a pop off the clock or a time out from us. Plus they get to punt it deep.

We scored with 30 seconds left, after starting in their territory. It was a terrible call, even if it bounces incomplete.

I know you are young and probably don't bother to read what is written, but that was EVERY running play beginning with 5:21 left in the 3rd quarter. That was not "specific" plays.

Fact is, we were on our heels. UGAg should have been able to come out and drive block us and win the game. They are stupid.
