The Hunt

Anybody have insight into when a hire could be made? Can’t recall being coach-less this early in the season.

Are we looking to pull someone from a team mid-season?

I was wondering this too and I would think decision on Todd has an impact on this. If he is canned then I don’t imagine we hire until the off season but I dunno.

I don’t understand how y’all are saying Art. The dude has been coaching ITALIAN FOOTBALL for the last 7 years, with one high school stint in between. He’s got too much baggage to bring here, and if we’re gonna get him, he either HAS to succeed, or we just look like dirtier scumbags than UGAg
I’ll go out on a limb to suggest that maybe we shouldn’t worry about the hiring halo effect, and concentrate more on a results oriented hire with real data to support his achievements.

We need to have someone watching film on ANY candidate just like you'd watch film of a recruit. Game decisions. Interview former coaches who have worked for the candidate, coaches who have coached against. Interview former players. Study film.

This "the hot name is this" is ööööing bullshit. Someone in our AV department needs to be prepping clips of games.

List the pros and cons of each coach.

Do this like you are hiring the most important person on your campus.

And no, TStan should NOT be involved. If we have to hire an experienced search committee to do this, hire one with a good record of hires in the area.

We are Georgia Tech. We can do this.

I have my first interview for the job tomorrow. I went to see a concert last night at the Eastern. I set cruise control on the SUV on the way south and quickly scribbled a TDET play on a cocktail napkin and threw it out onto 75/85 as we approached North Avenue. That napkin was found and delivered to Cabrera who saw that my touchdown every time play was flawless. I'm asking for a pittance compared to other coaches salaries. I just want $5 million a season, 10% of ticket sales, 5% of concessions, and 2% of merch. Also, $25 million if I am ever fired.

Also, I want to be able to drive the Ramblin' Wreck whenever I please. May use it to get on and off the field. Running from the tunnel to the sideline is not bougie

Dream: Deion Sanders or Urban Meyer
Budget: Curt Cignetti
Right: Curt Cignetti

Dream Candidate: Urban Meyer
Budget Candidate: Jeff Monken
Right Candidate: Jamey Chadwell

Urban isn't coming back to college. The best we can do if we want a coach from his tree is his QB coach from Bowling Green, Utah, and Flordia: Dan Mullen.

This presumes of course that he has any interest in an HC position.

As much as the UT fan in me wouldn't like this, Derek Mason might be a guy to look at. He did have some success at Vandy which is also a difficult place with academics. The wheels fell off at the end but competing in the ACC wouldn't pose the same challenge both coaching and recruiting. I know everyone is going to want an offense guy but his defenses were pretty stout. Also beat uga in 2016 too so add to the fact he has recruited this area before it might be a good fit especially on a budget. Of course his vandy success could simply be having ridden the coattails of James Franklin combined with UT being as inept at football as they had been in 100years. But just a name to consider.

Alex Golesh- Vols OC

Alex Golesh- Tennessee Offensive Coordinator
Tennessee has one of the best offenses in the country and while head coach Josh Heupel deserves a lot of credit for that, it is Golesh that is calling the plays. He was a top offensive coach when he was with Heupel at UCF as well. At the very least, Georgia Tech would have an offensive edge to them and be explosive.

I still need some sort of proof Deion Sanders has even a remote interest in the job before I get fired up about a potential great hire. Otherwise we'll find a way to öööö it up with a Butch Jones hire.
