I don't want to read through this entire thread, so sorry if this is a repeat. I heard that Thacker is being demoted to LB coach, and that among those under consideration for DC is the LB coach at Georgia, who is apparently very good and is considered the next in line for DC there, if their current one leaves.

Boy if they keep Thacker (DC), the next season will begin with nuclear meltdown heat on the defense for Thacker and Collins.

The one thing Thacker does well is recruit. He is a local Atlanta boy as well and the players I know seem to like him.
This move is for continuity - keep what few talented players we have on D out of the transfer portal.
As long as he isn’t calling plays, Im good with him staying on.

Another example given here was Frank Beamer, who started off pretty bad then fired all his assistants to save his job.

That said, my sense is a head coach who does poorly usually continues to do poorly.
