The OL

How much of the elite talent was still on the team when BL took over? How were things trending from 90-91?

I’m not excusing the disaster that became the BL era but it also isn’t like he was taking over for Saban at Bama next year.
6 of the 8 other teams in the ACC were ranked at some point in 1992, 5 in 1193, 6 in 1994. 5 of the other teams in 1994 finished with 8 or more wins. That wasn‘t a 2021 style ACC crapfest back then, ACC had competitive teams up & down the conference besides Free Shoes until later that decade.

91? They were here in 92
And they had Ross, O’Leary, and the Fridge in 91. So why a down year by comparison? Because 1990 was a great team but a big aberration at Tech. Bill Lewis didn’t inherit a national title contender. He inherited a decent team and then drove it into the dirt. But the fact that he took over two years after a natty is fairly irrelevant.

Lost to Clemson by 2, UGAg by 3. Penn State beat us pretty good in the opener. The South Carolina game was a head scratcher, but 1991 wasn't too bad of a season. We won 9/11 after the USC loss. Wheels fell off the bus after the close loss to FSU in 1992, as all GT fans from then know and remember

He still inherited a 8-5 team. Not an 11-0-1 team. Won 5 games and the wheels came off after that FSU game. When O’Leary was called back to save the program the results weren’t immediate. A lot of damage had to be undone.

By your logic Collins took over a program two years removed from a 9 win season. So it doesn’t matter they only one 5 the year before. They were 2 years removed from 9 wins.

So what is your point? Are you trying to claim that CPJ left as much talent in 2019 as Ross left in 1992? Cause if that's your point, you're flat out wrong.

1990 was not an anomaly. There was a hell of a lot more talent on the team in 1992 than in 2019

Good lord you are slow. My point, that you’ve been arguing lamely!in multiple replies, is that your statement that Lewis inherited a team two years removed from a natty was a pretty pointless statement. He inherited a top 20ish program and ran it into the dirt. But you attempt an overstatement by alluding he inherited an elite program.

Never forget we lost William Bell for '91 due to suspension. That was a huge loss to the team.

It was. Over a stupid decision about school books and a small amount of money. He never came back the same either imo. Dorsey Levens played pretty damn good in his stead.

At this point, I'm less worried about our record - we aren't going bowling- and am now deeply concerned about the morale of the team. Read the quote from Quez Jackson after the game. I just feel bad for him and the others that come to play while others are just punching a time clock.

What was the quote from Quez? He looked frustrated most of the game.

I sat behind the bench Saturday and the morale of the team looks bad. There was very little emotion. C. Thomas was upset about something and showed some emotion. One of the linemen (I think) not sure which one or who he was yelling at, yelled "just do your ööööing job" after the 2nd vt touchdown. Other than that, they looked liked they were just ready for the pain to end. Most of them came off the field and just sat on the bench not talking much and looking defeated.

In this season Clemson, NC State, Pitt, Wake, Miami, UNC, VPI have all been ranked. Granted that’s not as high a percentage but having a lot of teams ranked at some point isn’t the best barometer for conference parity IMO.

All I know is you guys said Lill Bewis too many times and now he's gonna resurrect and come back to ruin the whole school. Like football semetary...I hate Halloween

The point I've made, dumbass, is that Bill Lewis inherited a hell of a lot more talent than Collins did, dumbass. Jesus, just when you think you've experienced all the dumbass posters since joining the board in 2003, a numbskull like you shows up and lowers the bar even further.

Was it an elite program? Borderline. We had won 9/11 going into the FSU game. Win that, we take the next step up. We lost it in a close game and the wheels fell off the bus from there, dumbass.

Sorry about that. Not sure what point the dumb öööö is trying to prove other than "hey, I'm new here, let's discuss a topic that was exhausted on this board by 2004"

I heard that from an actual NBA coach.

its just stupid. Actual NBA coaches might throw away 1 of 82 games, but Nick Saban does not ever throw away a game.

can you take a look at our schedule for next year and let me know which game we gonna throw away. Is that one free-at BDS?

Yea, an NBA coach can let Michael Jordan sit for a few games before the playoffs to recover a bit, if needed. Saban can't trot the 3rd stringers out against Auburn and expect a playoff invite after a loss.

That's not what a throwaway game means. It's a game when absolutely nothing works for your team and everything works for the other team. It happens.

They weren’t as good as you thought. If only they hadn’t lost the last few games they would have been champs. That’s like saying with a few more breaks we’d have more than 3 wins right now. Yes BL was the worst coach on the flats, maybe anywhere. But Tech in 91 wasn’t Bama today. Tech in 90 wasn’t either. They were the best team that year but they were a thin team without a ton of depth. They stayed mostly injury free and played at a high level almost every single game.

Well, he took over and had Shawn Jones, William Bell, Dorsey Levens, Bobby Rodriguez, Coleman Rudolph, Kevin Battle, Donnie Davis, Jimy Lincoln, Rodney Wilkerson.....you tell me, idiot.
Only one of those players ever did much on Sunday so it was not great talent after all. Puts more emphasis on the coaching which failed miserably after the FSU meltdown. So your point is CGC is not as bad as CBL? Not much of a point.
