The son of one of GT's all time Greats!

I'll just say this.... If we lose this recruiting battle to anyone, it should be a moment GT athletics and its academics finally look themselves in the mirror and make some öööö changes. No excuses. None.

So you think one decision made by one teenager should bring about fundamental changes to a multi-million dollar institution? I hope no one ever hires you for a job that involves executive responsibilities.

I'll get in on that action.

Why do people assume we're supposed to get legacy players? Sure, it gives us an in, but some people want to create their own legacy.

Yeah, do we actually do significantly better or worse than other programs do in this regard? Or is this just a perception we have due to our general, all-encompassing self-loathing?

Pretty sure he was making this a boiling point issue after years of suckage in the recruiting arena.

Engineers have a difficult time communicating and reading between the lines so don't beat yourself up about it.

Off the top of my head I can think of Peyton Manning and Barry Sanders Jr. Granted, I know next to nothing about their recruitment processes, Eli did go to Ole Miss, and it's being reported that Sanders is now transferring to his dad's school (the only reason that example was fresh on my mind).

Totally agree. Swilling's kids should be here.

Too late. I own a pretty successful construction company.

Since my parents didn't attend college I don't understand the mindset but where my parents went would be way down the list of criteria for picking a school I would think.

Oh, I forgot, we are talking about athletes so they are actually picking a football program that happens to have a school attached to it.

I have four kids who are öööö proud where their parents went to school and all of them want/wanted to go there because of the history/legacy/respect/earning potential after graduation among other things. Oldest daughter graduated in 15' in Industrial Design and now gainfully employed by IBM, Harrison, it wasn't meant to be but will graduate in May at The Citadel (which is a öööö fine school) John Henry really wants to go there so we shall see and Julia (it's just not a good fit for her but she loves the YJ's more than anything and has given her teachers crap every year when football comes around. So yeah for some kids it's about following in your parents foot steps because they see the amount of success that their parents have had and they want a piece of that. Olivia is actually 4th generation of her mothers side because my parents didn't go to Tech but they were Tech fans long before I took my first breath. So forgive me if I find your statement short sighted.

Not a legacy and not a football player, but by the time he is ready to pick a school my son will have 18 years of football, basketball, and baseball games that he's been going to. If he were someone with access like an athletes' son, I'd expect his familiarity would be even higher, and probably his love, as well. Swilling's son has probably met all of the coaches many times, hung around with them, known many players throughout the last 18 years, etc.

The only college my boys ever wanted to go to is GT and they they both wanted to play football there, but unfortunately they both had injuries in HS that kept them from going to the next level. Fortunately, they both got in and are there now.

Kids of former players have another level of connection with the parent's alma mater - the relationship with the current coach and staff. My Dad played basketball at Auburn and coached high school basketball in Atlanta. He had played for Coach Eaves and loved him - Joel Eaves was a groomsman in my parents' wedding. Bill Lynn coached next and he had been my Dad's roommate. But, Coach Davis came in and did nothing to reach out to former players. Then Sonny Smith arrived and reached out to them. He developed a great relationship with them and it made a difference. I don't have any idea how CPJ relates to former players, but I believe it matters when it comes to recruiting kids of those players.

I hope that is true as I like to keep it all in the family, regardless of athletic skill, but Jordan Swilling lives in Louisianna. I hope I am wrong, but generally the connection from a distance is not the same as in state.

And thanks big John Davis, nice having you around.

I have heard grumblings that he is not the most accommodating to former players. Mostly 2nd hand, so I don't necessarily consider it absolute fact.
