There is no doubt about the talent gap

Wonder what happened the opening drive.. we blew them up. guess they adapted quick? And we haven’t

I think all that pre-snap motion was probably working against them. They cut out the wholesale shifts after that first series or two and got a lot better on D. Plus, I think the whole O got the yips after 3 or 4 fumbles.

....Tech handcuffs itself with academic restrictions.

Don't forget our ugly women lol. When Gronk's dad wanted him to go to Syracuse or Ohio State he told him he'd understand his choice to go to Arizona if he'd been to a pool party there.

Joking aside, I know lots of people who would not go to Tech because of academics and social life. My sister's was dating a guy who's dad offered to buy him a car if he went to Tech and he wouldn't do it.

What is a coach supposed to do when you are missing PATs? This is automatic across the country for many high schools. I mean, hire more or better coaches to work with them or get better kickers. PAT is not anything that should be difficult or need much coaching. The blocking could be bad, the hold could be bad. But guys missing more than one PAT is just sorry. The kickers have no excuse that could point to coaching or even a lack of coaching. I can or could at one point kick them.

I don't know. But if you say that high school level kickers can make PATs basically automatically (which I don't really disagree with), then either something is off in the coaching or we have middle school talent at the kicking position. I think the former is more likely than the latter.

I look at kickers missing PATs, linemen jumping on FG attempts, QBs unable to take snaps from under center or make relatively simple pitches, receivers who just stop running their routes (or QBs who don't know what the route is), and I see a lack of discipline. We screw up on way too many plays that should be automatic, and I attribute that to coaching.

I'd have a very tough time putting PATs on anything but coaching, because I feel even a D3 kicker should be able to kick college PATs extremely consistently.

I do understand your point, and it is especially salient in the game we saw today, where there is no doubt Clemson was leagues better than us at almost every position. In a game like Pitt though, where we outgained them 602 yards to 426 yards and still managed to lose by double digits -- I think that's a game we could easily win with better coaching.

I don't. I was a kicker in high school. The coach can tell you where to plant your foot and you can practice it a bunch and then proceed to screw it up come game time. That's what our guys do.

I agree CPJ screwed up the Pitt game.

I truly and completely believe that 100% of our problems is talent. We can't recruit. How long has it been since our last 5 star? Our last 4 star? It shows on the field
There was definitely a talent differential out there against CU. Against USF and Pitt? Not so much.

It’s not coaching it’s focus and want to. This team doesn’t have it. Or starting QB took himself out of the game on the opening drive. The team was moving the ball down the field like we never have against Clemson in a long time and then the whole team just said öööö it. I’m out.

That still gets back to coaching though. CPJ has no pull in this locker room. Derrick Moore’s schtick is old. These kids just flat out don’t want to be here.

From the stands you can't tell what's going on in their minds. CU deserves a lot of credit for the result. My *guess* is that we got a lot more nervous after the initial drive self-destructive, and then really started second-guessing after the first CU touchdown and then after our Defense wilting.

Exactly. Coaching isn't just telling players what to do, it also entails making sure the team has a good culture and is focused and ready to go on game day.

One of our A-Backs, a senior who has made great plays over his career, absolutely acted like he didn't want to be in the game at all. Why they kept sending him out there for more half-assed effort I will never know.

I guess what bothered me is Clemson played with two deeper safeties all game long. Clemson beat us just playing straight up solid defense. Disciplined football. There were opportunities to pass, but everyone knows our passing game is as bad as it has been since before John Heisman - and I am actually being serious about that.

This is going to be a dark couple of years for GT football. When CPJ was hired, the team had some great talent in place for him to work with. Next coach up is going to struggle

Pitt and Clemson have played us with a smart defensive scheme. DL have simply occupied blockers without making many tackles and LB’s and safeties just go hard to the ball. They made big plays. When we got to the edge there were a lot of defenders there. Our best plays were a few cutback runs where we slipped inside the pursuit. When we passed our OL were no match for their pressure. Clemson overmatches a lot of offenses with their rush.
