This Is What I'm Beginning to Think

One of the anonymous pre-season coaching quotes from other ACC coaches hit the nail right on the head when he said: “They (Georgia Tech) have a few players that could play on other teams”. He did not say START on other teams. He said PLAY on other teams— ie make their roster. It is impossible to overstate just what a sad lack of talent Paul Johnson left. And it’s absolutely amazing that he was even able to win 5-6 games per year with that talent.

Lay off Collins and give him time to assemble his players before you throw him under the bus.
Its hard to lay off him when he's doing a poor job of coaching the players he's got. Penalties, lack of discipline, and poor coaching decisions isn't a talent issue. It's a coaching issue.

You think we are worse this year than last year?
No. And that’s why it’s so frustrating. We show flashes of brilliance and then follow it up with an absolutely moronic penalty that is usually either a lack of focus or a lack of hustle. Either that or it’s a turnover on offense or our “deep” secondary getting smoked.

People are pissed because we seem to have the pieces on place for a decent year but step on our own dicks every time we try to move forward.

Of course we all want the best recruits, but we have the talent on the roster right now to be 3-0 this year. The team was simply not prepared and ready to play today.

ST is atrocious, comical at best. We aren't inept on offense like last year, with flashes of real talent and progress, and ability to move the ball with some consistency. We continue to be our own worst enemy most of the time, but it will get better.

Hopefully the lineman that took a kicked ball to the arse had his nads in protected mode. Otherwise he may have taken care of that particular kicker himself.

No sir, lay off our players! Tech currently has talented players who play hard for their school and coaches. Those ACC coaches you referenced were referring to past Tech Teams, not the 2020 version. If they had the same opinion for the current Tech team they would be wrong.
Tech's 2020 team is missing Jordan Mason, Dylan Deveney, Dylan Leonard, Tre Swilling, Curtis Ryans, T.K. Chimedza, and Antonneous Clayton. All of these young men are starters! That's 3 players on offense and 4 on defense. We haven't had 4 of them the past two games. And 3 haven't played all year. Tech is playing a true freshmen, Jeff Sims, at quarterback. That is one reason for the numerous turnovers. However, he has shown great talent many times, as well.
The talent and size increase of Tech's players is due to Tech's coaching staff. However, the multitude of penalties and poor special teams is largely due to poor coaching. Those coaches get paid an enormous sum to prepare Tech's team. I think it's fair to be critical of them. However, I believe it is most certainly unfair to be overly critical of our players! SO LAY OFF OF THEM! They don't get paid an enormous sum to risk their bodies each and every game they play.

Tech's legendarily football coach, Bobby Dodd, once said, "... we should always keep uppermost in mind that football, with all its glamour, glitter, thrills and chills, plus everything that makes it great, has one thing more important than all of these combined--that is, the boy who plays it."

GO JACKETS!

The worst offense in the entire Atlantic coast conference had more total yards and points in the first half than they did in their first combined.

The defensive line was manhandled by an oversized offense of line, even though it’s a terrible offense.

We were roasted, toasted and burnt multiple times on poorly thrown deep balls for TDs.

Their slow ass quarterback look like an Olympic track star running past our defense, converting third and long’s with his feet.

We’ve seen this over, over and over for the past 15 years going on 5 DCs now, one of which coached in a Super Bowl.
And you think it’s a coaching problem. Wow...

After reading this thread, I thought the ST you were referring to was StingTalk. The highs are never really that high and the lows are never really that low. I like where we're going vs watching our roster be totally devoid of NFL talent and get tossed around by the bigboys

I could live with last weeks loss and can live with today's too but ........ we played much better last week than this week. That was not a good Syracuse team we lost to - they beat us because of 1) turnovers 2) we gave up long TD passes twice - we need Swillng back 3) penalties and 4) just dumb plays like not recognizing pressure coming from the blind side, letting people get behind you as a CB, and can't kick the ball above 4 feet high. I honestly believe without the long passes, we would have stopped them. Disappointing - I can stand losing like we lost to UCF but today was ugly and that's disappointing. Coaching needs to get better.

I was referring to Special Teams when posting ST, but I guess both would be applicable in this case lol

Almost nobody is trotting out primarily true freshman through sophomores either.
Quinney, Johnson, DeFoor, Minihan, Sanders, Carter, Jalen Camp, Curry, C Thomas, J Thomas, Carpenter, Showell, Clayton, T Oliver, K Oliver, Lee, Q Jackson .... lot of juniors, redshirt juniors and seniors there. Didn't even go into the redshirt sophomores. Sims, Gibbs and Williams (and Ward a little bit) are the only true freshmen playing a lot. Ivey has played a little bit.
and if these other freshmen in this recruiting class are supposed to be so good, play em. If you expect to get players as good if not better in years to come, go ahead and play them now.

I’d lean toward coaching considering they were never competitive against LSU until leach got there.
They beat LSU when Prescott was there. At that point, everyone thought Mississippi State was a top team.

Maybe it's because Leach doesn't try to play the same style of offense as every other team in the country. It's almost like that gives him a competitive advantage. Hmm, I remember another coach that did something like that.
And couldn't recruit OL, DL, and since he was a one trick pony, teams like Duke were lining up against his team, whipping the OL, and quickly tackling what was normally a QB keep or dive. I sat through too many humiliating Duke losses watching our ball carrier getting tackled half a second after getting the ball.

Overall we are better than last year based on the sum of the first three games. However, we are not any better than last year in the discipline and focus department, which is where a lot of the concern comes from.

I don't think illegal substitution, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc. has anything to do with a bare cupboard

And Prescott left and they miss st went back to being a mediocre or worse sec west team, like most people expected.
