This is why we need to dump Russell

On the other hand I think that comparing us to Penn State and Alabama is ridiculous. We aren't like them and we don't have some of the characteristics that they do. We don't have nearly as much money to throw around as they do and our facilities most likely are behind those two schools. We certainly don't have nearly as many students and not nearly as many majors. So suggesting that because something works at a place totally dissimilar to GT that it should work at GT isn't realistic to me.

Just to be clear, my point was that having flashy new uniforms really doesn't matter. Sure, we're not directly competing with UA or Penn St. But other schools (with those fancy new uni's) are. And it doesn't help.

My guess is that if you let a recruit design their own uniform, it wouldn't get us a single player who we wouldn't have already gotten.

Point taken, but if there were an easy advantage to be had that didn't hurt anybody and wasn't immoral, illegal, or against the rules, why wouldn't you take it? Or am I putting words in your mouth that you didn't say, which I realize is entirely possible.

Again, I'm not suggesting at all that we go out and get ourselves funky looking uniforms. I like the classy and classic looks we've been wearing at GT.

No you're not putting words in my mouth. I just don't think that a change in uniform would have any impact at all. SOme recruit might say that they picked us in part because they liked our uniforms, but I think that person would pick us anyway.

The difference between the actual uniforms is only color placement etc. The materials used are very similar if not the same. The only difference between Nike and Russell is marketing. Nike spends a huge fortune on marketing Russell does not. This is the same for Underarmor. Materials they use are in a wide variety of clothes made by other manufacturers. As a matter fact people my age would grimace if they marketed what the material really is ..... polyester.

We are in complete agreement on this :)

My main point is that eventually when you put together a lot of small data points, uniforms/equipment being one of them, they add up to a large data point. I just don't like leaving any advantage that can be had out there on the table, if you know what I mean.

The R will never, EVER, compete with the Swoosh. Russell is old school, but in a lot of ways that fits well with the desires of the Wonderbread alums of my alma mater.
I've been thinking they need to do a marketing campaign with GT along the lines of :"Old school, New Style"

It would mesh with the history and the direction of both the company and the school.

We are a storied program that is going with a new style of ball and they are a company that has a history in sweats, etc. that could make a transition to the new age materials and designs...but this is just one mans opinion.

I think that we possibly have to eliminate some potential recruits because of academics. Sometimes we don't even get that far, and the recruits are scared away on their on due to academics. This puts us at a disadvantage to other schools like Ugag. We can't have uniform issues, equipment issues, facility issues run off any recruits. If Russell is an issue with a 'single recruit' (that we really want)we should be aware, when the contract with Russell is up, that we need to look carefully at this situation and be open to other uniform providers. It's about revenue, so I would think the providers would like to bid for our contract.
