Everybody happy with the win?

Chances next week?

Entertaining game and I was happy to get the win. We don't look like a very good team though and don't appear to be improving. I think our chances next week are slim to none.

Like Burnett's play, he's gonna be a good one...

Winning is like pizza and sex. Even when it is bad, it is still good.

He looks like a natural out there. Wish we had made this adjustment earlier in the year.

Greg Smith stepped up.

I like Greg Smith. Good to see him have a good game.

No! In fact, it reaffirms my views. We struggled against solidly inferior competition because our offense is just not good.

On the first FG at the end, we failed to center the ball. The extra yardage did not make any difference, but if anything made the angle worse for the kicker. If we were going for the 1st, we should pass. If we are just trying to setup a better position for the FG, center the freakin' ball.

On the second FG, we should have calmly run up to line, let the clock run down, and then spike so our kicking team could casually come out and kick the winning FG. Instead we rushed the kicking team out there and everyone was standing around looking confused. Luckily for us, Butch Davis bailed us out by calling a timeout.

After the players just about fumbled the game away, our coaches just about fumbled it away.

Chances next week?

We are clearly talented enough to beat UGA. See the last 3 games in the series if you don't believe me. We have averaged about 11 points per game against UGA under Gailey. We will need at least 2 TDs to win next Saturday. I am hopeful, but our offense has not given me any reason to believe they are capable of getting the job done.

  • Definitely like the change at CB. Nice to see the secondary play a decent game.
  • Greg Smith looked good all day. He finally started catching those passes he needs to.
  • Views arent changed. I agree with the guy above who said they are reaffirmed. I thought I was gonna get taken out by some UNC fans when they took the lead for the comment "Great, now we're losing to someone worse than US"
  • Little chance, but hey, lets get out there are give it a shot! Im not sure the offense can produce what it needs to. I say we use this game to give Nesbitt some PT if it becomes out of reach. If it gets to a point where its a foregone cause, we have nothing to lose if he messes up.....and he IS the future....hopefully as soon as next year

This is the problem. We will need a hell of a lot more than 2 td's. uga is a good offensive team with a solid defense. We won't score enough against a solid defense and our defense isn't good enough to hold a good offense down.

Sadly, I think we will see something like 31 - 10 - bad guys.

I agree with the previous comments about this game. Butch Davis has kept Carolina respectable in all but two of their games this year, even though 33 out of the 44 on the two deep are freshmen and sophomores. UNC will be a serious force in the years to come.

I also noted that yet another QB passed a good bit above his average against us. It's been a recurring theme this year going back to Matt Ryan.

As for UGA, I'm expecting something like the 2003 game. Not the completely out of proportion beating of 2002, but a methodical win by a better team. A win could happen if we get lucky with turnovers, but we've also been hurting in that department for the past few games.

Nothing has changed in my mind, win 7 lose to UGAG, SAME STORY DIFFERENT SEASON.

Its a big win in the conference.

Wins are good things because there are no sure ones anymore (App St over Michigan, Stanford over SoCal, LA-Monroe over Alabama).

UNC has now lost 6 games this year by less than a TD...they are fighting. I think they are playing with renewed vigor this year. They have some decisions to make in the future with Mike Paulus becoming a R-Fr and Yates only being a R-So next year.

Loved seeing Burnett in there more. At this point of the season you have to play the best athletes as they have been exposed to enough throughout to put the learnings to the test.

I would love to see Nesbitt more...but he sure does fumble a lot. He could have had another...but was correctly ruled down by contact. Of course, TB...holding the ball like Tony Dorsett...coughed it up twice and he should know better as a R-Jr than to put his team at risk.

Choice obviously still has some pain with his two fumbles in two games. That is not like him...and I think it is a mental thing as he is battling hard.

Defense looked good again....still has a timing problem where we give up a long drive in the second half right after our offense comes up with a TD drive to gain back the momentum. Same thing happened against Virginia and Maryland. Run defense is still solid (although UNC is now excited about Greg Little's performance there yesterday)....pass defense still shows some susceptibility.

Offensively I cannot find fault with play-calling or usage of personnel. Bond mixed it up quite a bit. The problem is simply the QB's. When they play well we are ok....but 3 fumbles by the QB's is just insane. They have to protect the darn fumble as all three were preventable. Nesbitt does it all the time....but TB should know better.

People will complain about passing out of our end zone which led to one TB fumble...but if we ran it three times and punted there would be those complaining about being too conservative. You either run it there or you drop back and throw the deep sideline routes....those are the options coaches put to use 99% of the time. Players just have to execute.

I also can't complain about the extra run at the end of the game-winning FB drive to get 6 yards. We still had time for another spike as it turned out so we were ok...but it was close. However, if we come off the field one play early to kick the FG....people complain that we are too conservative and should have run another play. Can't win there.

Its a win....an ACC win...and puts us in a better place.

Now it is time to focus on UGA!

I thought there were a number of strange decisions today.

1. The squib and pop-up kick-offs with Blair led to great UNC field position. The squib in the second half was when he had the wind at his back. That led directly to a UNC touchdown.

2. The 3 straight direct snaps to Tashard with 3 minutes to go. Made no sense to close down the offense there. Especially considering UNC would have had plenty of time to answer a field goal.

3. The final run to Tashard was a goof. I saw more than one coach signaling for Tater to spike the football to stop the clock. As others have said it, no first down and the game is over and really the play made the field goal more difficult if anything because of the angle. After the run. The offense should have gotten up to the line to spike the football to stop the clock so we could take our time to setup for the field goal. UNC bailed us out with the timeout.

We looked pretty clueless down the stretch, but kids made a lot of plays. I thought we played with better intensity but not the focus you would expect from a team that is playing for its coach.

What the fact we beat UNC at home by 2?? I don't feel a need to say anymore then that.

UNC has lost 6 games by less than a TD.

Funny how arrogant and dilusional GT fans have become that a W is not good enough...we have to W a certain way as well.

I bet Alabama, Southern Cal, and Michigan would like to each have one L become a 2-pt win this year!

I get what you're saying hivered, but do you honestly think that we played well? We did some things well, but struggled in other parts of the game. We were fortunate to pull it out against a 3 win team. Yes, I'll take any win. But the question was did it change anyone's mind. The answer is no. If you wanted Chan back, it's another win. If you didn't, it surely didn't make you rething your position.

We are a completely beat up team playing at about 75% total strength now. It's unfortunate that we play UGA at the end considering an injury here or there for us really hurts us, while they just put in another four star recruit.

I wanted two things against UNC, a win and no more injuries. We got clobbered on the injury front.

Happy with any win no matter how we get them. However, I don't see either sides opinion changing from this game really. In fact, this game really only had the chance to go against Gailey should he have lost due to the record of the opposing team.

The biggest question I have to ask myself is, do I think Gailey will continue to improve the program in the years to come? I personally don't believe he will and today certainly gave me some confirmation of that opinion. I've just found myself way too many times scratching my head over plays calls and personnel decisions. I've stated it before that I believe he is better suited for the NFL and his style doesn't fit well for college in general but especially at Tech.

That being said, I'm ready for the challenge ahead. I honestly don't think it will be close but I'm going to do my best to insure we have a home field advantage on Saturday. Just leave your all on the field boys and we'll see what happens. Perhaps we can reverse roles from last year.

I really do not think any team looks like they execute well when you watch them closely...with exception of Kansas.

I think 95% of college teams are trying to do things beyond the level of talent and experience of a 18-21 year old player.

I think TB is fortunate there is not an experienced backup right now...or else his carelessness with the football the past few games would have him on the bench. My understanding is Josh Nesbitt will be asked to take on everything in the spring to see what he does.

UNC has not won a game outside of NC since 2002 and they have been a very bad team for years now. They are playing with freshmen and sophomores at seemingly every position.

Why are they in there close every game even though they really don't have any business being there? It's called coaching.

We still have WR's that don't know where to line up or what route to run and way too many dropped passes. I would say that we basically run a high school wing-T offense, but there are high school teams that get much better execution than us. I bet over a third of our offensive snaps were direct snap runs. What does it say when you're in year 6 of a regime with your most talented and experienced team and your best play is direct snap to the RB?

We were in FG range driving to win and our fans were booing the playcalling and the obvious confusion on the sideline with the game management.

Everybody happy with the win?
I've never been unhappy with a win.......except when it was another team's win, which isn't really a win. So.....no.....I mean yes. What was the question, again? :>)

MB did a great job today. It says alot about two things.....our play as of late AND Jon's faith in Morgan's development in his understanding of the schemes...that he was comfortable in making the move. We obviously still have issues and are banged up in the secondary but this move paid dividends right away. I love all our guys but sometimes heart and will can only get you so far.

This is akin to saying Durant had a nice game yesterday. WOW! Looks like #5 has gotten past his cases of the drops. PK isn't the only position where it sometimes just "gets into your head" every time you're called on to make a play and has to be worked out. We've all seen receivers at every level....even All-Pro guys at the next level....who just go thru periods of "WTF?" Each drop seems to make the next op exponentially-tougher until you just put a string together and have a breakthrough game to carry your load and pick up some dinged-up teammates. Greg had that game yesterday, and showed why the staff was so high on him for this season and the future.

The TD from Tater was as pretty at both ends as any I've seen from Matt Ryan this season. That was sweet!

BTW, anyone recall us having a game where we got TD's thrown from THREE different players?

Does this change anyones views?
Not mine. If anything, it was nice to see the offense opening up even more. Didn't go to #84 as much (with the exception of one big play late where I actually said to StoopidGy as we lined up..."I think this would be a great time to look for Peek underneath" ;-) or da' Bull, but we definitely gave the mutts some new wrinkles to think about. Of course, all the plays that worked were 'good calls by Bond' and the ones that didn't were 'bad ones by Gailey' ;-) I'm excited to see our offensive development in JB's second season.

Chances next week?
I dunno....if I catch her in the right mood, send the kids to Grandma's, make some margaritas.......oh...wait....*ahem*.....

I think all things considered, they're at least as good as Northeast LaLa's were yesterday vs Lou Lombardi's charges in Tuscaloosa. ;-) This one comes down to playing past the bumps and bruises and executing on every snap. Everyone....in pads and not..... who'll be coming out of that tunnel behind that Ford on Saturday afternoon understands what's on the line.

"Four Quarters!"

LET'S GO JACKETS!!!

WHAT'S THE 'GOOD WORD'?!?!?!
