It is no fun not being excited. I wish I was... perhaps you know of the big fish CGC has landed himself. I don’t have that knowledge.

Some people pointed out his great defenses and they were right! If I had hope it would be for his defensive prowess as the data backs that up and GT had a strong defense before CPJ. I am tempered by the fact that he had strong defenses at schools with no recruiting disadvantages.
 
Poking bad people in the eye is no chore and not beneath a good person. I will not choose hate, but I do rub dogs noses when they crap in the house.

Of course I may, highly doubt it, be on the wrong end of this one... just like those who were ready to quit game 4.

Mississippi State has recruiting disadvantages. No, they're not the academic ones we have. But they will always be perceived as second fiddle in a state that does not produce nearly as many players as the states their conference foes are located in. And their program has less prestige than only a handful of their conference opponents. When it comes to Bama, LSU and Auburn, they are up against as big of a composite disadvantage as we are against Clemson and FSU.

Not only is Tech second fiddle in GA when it comes to state schools, they are probably 13th fiddle in the pecking order of schools that have a recruiting focus in GA. And then they have the academic thing to deal with. Well at least they don't have the TO thing to "hinder" them anymore. Maybe they can get in the top 10 of fiddles in GA. I'm just not sold that going from 13 to 10th fiddle in GA is going to equate to more wins on the field, but maybe Tech can get more players in the NFL which is so much more exciting than winning football games.
 
We can always be better. Of course the opposite could be true. I just want every team on our schedule to circle our game with fear. I want the pups to cringe when they mention our name. I want the Heisman, Alexander, Dodd years back.
I want us to be mentioned every time ESPN talks about CFB. I want to be the ones people point to when they say this team does it the right way.

I don't accept your acceptance of guaranteed mediocrity. We have a losing record in-conference the last 4 years. That may count as winning football to you, but I want more.

What in my post said I accept mediocrity? I just don't think pulling in marginally better classes are going to equate to more victories. Now if Tech starts popping off top 20 classes consistently then I think we may be cooking. I'm basing my opinions on Tech history over the past 35 years Maybe CGC has the magic touch and can buck the trend.

Getting players to the NFL gives us more credibility among the recruits that are academic qualifiers, this will lead to more talent on our roster and that will lead to more wins

CPJ saying the NFL will find you if you're good enough didn't resonate in the living rooms of HS recruits

Coach G saying we'll get you to Graduation Day AND the NFL sounds a helluva lot better

Coach G talked about all our drills and conditioning will be focused on developing our players to be the best they can while giving them the best chance at the NFL, that's a much better sales pitch than the "my system works" pitch that CPJ was spewing

We don’t need top 20 classes to be successful. If we can be around 30 that will mean more playmakers and more guys who can develop into playmakers with the right talent evaluation and coaching.

But we're in Ga and in Atlanta to boot, that alone says we should be in the Top20 every yr in Recruiting

My theory is that there are more academic qualifiers out there than the pro-CPJ crowd is willing to admit to and now that we got Coach G on the job, he's gonna start bringing them in

Maybe I'm overly optimistic
 
CPJ went 19-7 the first two years here with CCG's (which can be argued as significantly CGC's) recruits. That's a 73.1% winning percentage.
CPJ went 63-52 here after the first two years, with the kids he believed fit his system best. That's a 54.8% winning percentage.

There are multiple reasons for the above disparity, but the only one relevant to today's Georgia Tech is that we can get better Jimmies and Joes admitted into Georgia Tech than we have been getting, and they can impact the won-loss percentage. By about 15% to 20%.

A 20% winning percentage gain is significant, but remember that was really only one monster year plus residual good feelings for a second good year (where we lost about 3 or 4 4-star players right before or after the coaching change.)

Now imagine 4 years in a row of 2007 recruiting results. That is our upper end possibility.

My current projection for 2019 and 2020 together is about a .550 winning percentage. My current projection for 2021 and 2022 together is an .800 to .900 winning percentage. We can revisit this projection in four years, if we are still on the board.

I don't think this guy is going to make any excuses for anything.

And I think any team with Geoff Collins and Derrick Moore standing side-by-side is not going to be held to only six wins total over two years. I don't bet on college football, but I will bet on the above.



Lest we forget, Bobby Ross went 5-17 with zero conference wins his first two seasons here, and things turned out okay with him, so I give the first two years zero credence anyway.

Even CPJ says we have 7 or 8 win talent coming back, regardless of scheme. What evidence do you have that Collins is such a horrible coach that we are going to bottom out over the next 2 years?

You still seem to be overlooking the fact that it was Paul Johnson who quit and Todd Stansbury who decided to ditch the option, a decision he likely had already made when he took the AD job. Why take out your disappointment on other fans?
 
The state of Georgia has approximately 40 blue-chip recruits—an 11% national share—in a given year. Florida has a staggering 65, or a 17.8% share. Three of the four playoff teams last year had the desired "blue chip ratio," defined as half a roster bearing four- or five-star ratings. (This is based on an article from February, and I'm assuming it's accurate.)

Tech would love to climb into that top bracket, like everybody else. But a more immediate goal would be to climb into the Top 25 bracket, which gets them into position for more. That step wouldn't require any miracle, but it would make a huge difference in perception. Tech has been getting very occasional blue-chips. Currently, according to Rivals, 15 of 17 commitments are three-star; the other two are two-star. And three-stars are bread and butter for a top 25 team. But you need a few difference makers to be in position to win the biggest games.

I know the hype-driven "star" fixation is tedious for many, obsessed over by others. Let's just say Collins needs to at least slightly raise the production level in getting that game-changing talent. Even five four-stars would make a difference, and you build from there. After three years, you have fifteen elite contributors on your roster. Almost thirty friggin' percent of the nation's blue chip talent is in geographical reach. Sure, it's highly competitive; you run into three or four distant assistant coaches at the grocery store. But it's criminal negligence to bat .000 or thereabouts. I figure Collins targets the sub-group out of the top layer, those who would show interest in a Tech education and playing in Atlanta. I've read people explain away Chan's 2007 class here; I don't know whether it was a fluke or not, but it's fairly recent history and if it could be annually duplicated, with outstanding effort by Collins and his assistants, 2009 is the indicator of what can happen (I know that was a triple option team, but it was a highly athletic one).

no recruiting disadvantages? LMAO - who's lining up to go to Temple and shitty Philadelphia to play for a non-P5 basketball school? UCF has shown clearly that the absolute best season Temple can EVER have is some meaningless bowl loss against a non-playoff has-been like Auburn in 2017. Temple has zero past, zero future, and zero present to offer to any decent HS football player.

"It's not fun being excited" - you're right and that sums up the last 3 years heading into September under CPJ. Zero excitement whatsoever and the plunging attendance backs up the fact that fewer and fewer people were neither excited nor interested in watching a bunch of ööööing QB Keepers, noon-game blowouts of cupcakes, and inked-in losses to Clemson, Duke, and the mutts.
