I think the first thing to acknowledge is that ND is not very good as we saw today. At best they are a mid level program right now. With that being said here is how I view today. Please respond...wanna hear what all you good GT fellers gotta say.

OFFENSE:

1. OL - Started slow, but picked it up as the game wore on. Looked as if there were a few missed assignments early on which you can expect early in the season. The best part of ND was their front 7.

Grade - B+

2. QB - TB has to settle down. He looked extremely nervous out there today. Quick throws, rushed throws. I am sure CJB will work with him this week. He missed open receivers quite a bit today. But the most important thing IMO he did not do anything to get us beat.

Grade - B-

3. RB - No doubt about it baby TC is DA MAN! Over 200 yards in total offense for the day. What else can be said about Mike Cox, one helluva team player and blocker. Doesn't touch the ball that often, but sells himself for the sake of the team.

Grade - A++++++

4. WR - Not bad considerning how young they are. Some good catches, ran decent routes from what I could tell.

Grade - B

5. Coaching - I thought CJB managed the game fairly well today. He definately has to work on the red zone offense. We saw a lot we have not seen in a while. direct snap, throwing to TE, throwing to backs out of backfield. It will be interesting to see how the year progresses.

Grade - B

Overall grade is a B. First time out for the season some things went well some things need work, but overall I think we can say it was positive today.

DEFENSE:

Not even gonna bother breaking down by groups. I think we saw today there is no doubt DEEEEEFENSE is our strong suit. Wheeler was Wheeler just dang awesome. DL did an excellent job. Just hard to point out individuals in a game with a good overall performance. I do take into consideration the offense we played against and it was not a very good ND offense. Defense had 3 turnovers NUMEROUS plays for loss. At one point 25% of ND plays were for negative yardage.

Grade - A

Special Teams:

A vast improvement from last year. Besides the blocked FG I saw 100% improvement. This group can be a huge asset if they remain consistently good.

Grade: B+ (blocked FG lowers a bit)

Overall grade i think is a solid B. Had ND beenthe ND we are used to then I bump to a A-.

Last comment, why in the world would the good ole boys from BUZZOFF lock up their board. Bet some intersting points being made over there. ND sucks, told ya TB was a mommas boy, yada yada yada! Quite humorous in my opinion.

Great start RAMBLIN WRECK!!!! 1-0

I agree with you on most of your assessments. I would give the O-Line an A- though...yes they missed a couple blocks but 250+ yards rushing doesn't come without stellar O-Line play.

One note on the redzone offense...it seems to me like they were scared to let Bennett throw in the red zone, and it's tough to run in the red zone when the other team knows you're going to do it. Hopefully that will change as we go on and Bennett settles down.

Also I'd give us a B+ overall. Overall great performance.

Great analysis. Like gth816f, I think you are overly critical of our offensive line (but I don't look at them with as well-educated eyes, either!). I'm not sure how an O line that pounds 265 yards on the ground and allows only one sack gets anything other than an A.

Simply because of the domination in all facets of the game -- offense, defense, special teams, I give the team a solid A. Missed execution on a few key plays in the red zone is the only thing keeping us from an A+.

Newcomer of the game: Morgan Burnett -- 6 tackles, 1 sack, a few great hits, and superb closing speed and sure tackling. He really stood out to me.

Player of the game: Tashard Choice with 196 rushing yards, and another 22 on 3 receptions.

Great performance today, but with room for improvement. Looks to be a fun year for Jacket fans...Mike

I can agree with that GTF. Just an old line coach here who tends to be critical of o line play, but I do think they performed well overall.

MOF2 officially changes OL grade to an A. I should be more leniant maybe. Coached Ol for a few years before getting into administration, so I tend to be difficult.

Thanks for input!!

My replies are in ND green in polite respect to the dead.

I believe you are correct and that ND is mid level. However, we have often played down to the competition in years past. That clearly did not happen today.

OFFENSE:

1. OL - Started slow, but picked it up as the game wore on. Looked as if there were a few missed assignments early on which you can expect early in the season. The best part of ND was their front 7.

I got the feeling that ND did not respect our passing game and was just daring us to throw. Our line still emerged dominant and TC had a huge day running the ball.

Grade - B+ I think the line deserves an A.

2. QB - TB has to settle down. He looked extremely nervous out there today. Quick throws, rushed throws. I am sure CJB will work with him this week. He missed open receivers quite a bit today. But the most important thing IMO he did not do anything to get us beat.

Grade - B- Taylor played like an inexperienced QB at times. He needs to settle down, as you said. And, like you said, he did not do anything to cost us the game. I agree with your score.

3. RB - No doubt about it baby TC is DA MAN! Over 200 yards in total offense for the day. What else can be said about Mike Cox, one helluva team player and blocker. Doesn't touch the ball that often, but sells himself for the sake of the team.

Grade - A++++++ Amen! Throw in a couple more +++ for me. And what about Dwyer? I saw very little dropoff when he ran the ball. Outstanding.

4. WR - Not bad considerning how young they are. Some good catches, ran decent routes from what I could tell.

Grade - B I was a little disappointed, except for Smith who was productive and Johnson had a big play that reminded me of that other Johnson from times past. However, I was actually looking for three or possibly four good receivers to emerge today. B is a good grade.

5. Coaching - I thought CJB managed the game fairly well today. He definately has to work on the red zone offense. We saw a lot we have not seen in a while. direct snap, throwing to TE, throwing to backs out of backfield. It will be interesting to see how the year progresses.

I can't fault coaches that hold the opposing team to a field goal while piling up 33 points that could have been more if some TD passes had been on target.

Grade - B I give all our coaches an A top to bottom.

Overall grade is a B. First time out for the season some things went well some things need work, but overall I think we can say it was positive today.

I just can't give a B to a team that rolls up 33 points as underdogs at ND stadium, and that even with some missed TD passes. TC and the OL bring it up to an A.

DEFENSE:

Not even gonna bother breaking down by groups. I think we saw today there is no doubt DEEEEEFENSE is our strong suit. Wheeler was Wheeler just dang awesome. DL did an excellent job. Grade - A Total agreement. Defense was awesome. And what about #1? Wow! That kid is a force.

Special Teams:

A vast improvement from last year. Besides the blocked FG I saw 100% improvement. This group can be a huge asset if they remain consistently good.

Grade: B+ (blocked FG lowers a bit) I would have raised you to an A- if we hadn't gotten cute on one or two kick offs. Fortunately, coverage was the best I have seen in years.

Overall grade i think is a solid B. Had ND beenthe ND we are used to then I bump to a A-.

I gave an A to the offense on the strength of the OL and TC. The defense was a solid A...maybe A+. I thought we looked solid in all phases of the game except passing and even that had a number of shining moments. So I give us an overall A.

Last comment, why in the world would the good ole boys from BUZZOFF lock up their board. Bet some intersting points being made over there. ND sucks, told ya TB was a mommas boy, yada yada yada! Quite humorous in my opinion.

Notre Dame is not quite as bad as they seemed today. The open secret is that we were the better team coming in and Weis knew it and he rolled the dice with Jones and the WVA-style offense. Tenuta was ready for it, and it was obvious that Weis wasn't completely committed to it either. Sharpley would have kept the game much closer. I wouldn't want to be facing Clausen around game 10 or 11. A great win for us. I don't relish facing Ryan of BC in a couple of weeks, especially if Jahi is going to be out. I'm assuming he got a concussing from the knee in the helmet?

I would tend to increase the rating of the WR. One of the things that impressed me most was their downfield blocking. I thought Tech looked extremely good, particularly for a first game, and on the road.

Bebe Thomas was blocking like a madman.

As a former pro coach, Chan likes for his receivers to block as well as catch. A good receiver that doesn't block will likely ride the bench.

I agree with your original scoring. I felt the OL performed much better in run blocking in the 1st half than pass blocking. In the second half the pass blocking picked up, perhaps in part from wearing down the defense by running down their throat.

My one concern after watching this game is our passing offense. I think we need to improve all phases of our pass offense before we play BC or VT; and there is time to do that. I think if we improve the passing game, the redzone offense will seem to fix itself.

I did enjoy Bond's offense and play calling overall.

Certainly enjoyed watching what some consider the worst coach in college football beat the tar out of what many consider the best coach in college football. Maybe that's what they are discussing over on Buzzoff.

LMAO. :laugher:

Buzzoff may be in Executive Session. :fingersx:

A few thoughts.

It was so fun to hear the Domers wring their hands on the post game driving back to the hotel. It is amazing that God(Weis) goes to goat in one game.

I was amazed with the special teams coverage. Drilling Zbi on the first punt was a highlight. Several folks on the ND post game just railed him about not fair catching. How do you dog one of your studs?

The adjustment on the D line in the second quarter was genious. The faster line really dominated the second quarter. I love this defense.

T.C.'s run in the 3rd quarter to get first down and get us near the 20 gets him an A+ by itself. The rest is all bonus +++.

I was suprised by ND's defense early on. Not expected, which credit is due on that. Our line was just too powerful and they didn't have enough. I think TB will be fine this year with the line. Look forward to the coming improvements.

I think a B- for Bennett is a tad bit high. I'd give not making mistakes a C.

We need to get the passing game straightened out next week. BC allowed 2 rushing yards on 24 carries to WF.

Boys and Girls and TECH FANS alike, I am so happy right now.

Only got to watch the first half on TV in Ellijay and then on radio to watch son play football.

MVR2 is highly critical of the O Line but he aint far off.

My thoughts:

Red Zone: Obviously CJB wasn't going to put tater in awkward position and it is very hard to run against 10 men in the box. Tater needs to vastly improve in this area. Overall RZ not good, Tater very good.

WR: Theirs nothing more than I like then seeing a WR block downfield. Boys, I hope the OL takes you out for dinner this week because TC doesn't get 196 w/o you. Overall better than Excellent.

Defense: I spent about 20 minutes with C Tenuta last week and didn't not even talk about Tech Football. I took one look in his eyes and I wasn't worried. Very proud at the end of the first half that we didn't go into prevent defense, well we did the first play but after that we blitz and it was all over. I can honestly say I haven't seen speed like that down at Tech in my 25 years following The Jackets!
Overall: THESE GUYS ARE GOOD!

Notre Dame is not a very good team but they still have athletes and it showed during the game. I still say they win 4 maybe 5 but that's just because they have the service academies and I believe Duke.

It was great too here IARWFGT in the back ground on TV, will be interested to see comments on their fans.

I'm shuffling off to Buffalo this week for Alumni weekend and can't wait to get back with my breathren on the 15th to open the ACC with a win.
