Wonder what the numbers are for starting in the top 10. UNC LOL
Not as high as you'd think, but over the last 40 years, they've only improved on their initial AP rating a handful of times. Here are all the seasons they started ranked back to 1980 and where they finished:Wonder what the numbers are for starting in the top 10. UNC LOL
Yea, it was very Miami-esque the fall of UVA after we ripped their hearts out. They went on a downward spiral after losing to us.
The Mack effect is just oofNot as high as you'd think, but over the last 40 years, they've only improved on their initial AP rating a handful of times. Here are all the seasons they started ranked back to 1980 and where they finished:
(NR = not ranked / RV = received votes)
2023 - 21 to NR
2021 - 10 to NR
2020 - 18 to 18
2016 - 22 to RV
2015 - NR to 15
2014 - 23 to NR
2010 - 18 to NR
2009 - 21 to NR
1998 - 12 to NR
1997 - 7 to 6
1995 - 20 to NR
1994 - 19 to NR
1993 - 20 to 19
1983 - 11 to NR
1982 - 5 to 18
1981 - 12 to 9
1980 - 14 to 10
So only 5 times in the past 43 years have they improved their preseason ranking. 10 times they have been ranked in preseason AP poll and finished not ranked. The trend continues on down too, prior to 1980 dating back to 1950 they were ranked in the top 25 five more times and finished not ranked. They did not finish a season ranked at all prior to 1980.
