Good thing we didn't make him gtfo
Sure. If a kid says he wants to leave, they should be shown the exit. I love Malik, have said it from the beginning. But I love GT more. If someone thinks there are better opportunities outside of Tech for them, I’m not judging it, but he should leave. GTFO, but you’re welcome back if you change your mind.

I think if someone thinks there are better opportunities out there but isn't sure, we should do anything within reason to convince him Tech is the best option.

That doesn't mean paying him more than we think he's worth, but letting him to continue to be part of the culture we're building and keeping what he'd be leaving front and center in his mind while he's making his decision? Seems like a no brainer to me.

My guess is if Malik told Coach Key he was thinking there might be a better option for him and our response was, "GTFO, you're barred from the facilities. But hey, we'd love to have you back if you change your mind", we wouldn't be getting him back now.

This. Whenever I've had an employee come to me to resign for a "better opportunity", I've always said thanks for your services and good luck. Once they've crossed the threshold of looking for something else, you'll never get the same effort out of them again if you make a counter offer to keep them.

I was more along the lines of, this dude could go play for Vandy, or any one of our upcoming opponents. He doesn’t need to be around the program as we game plan and train. Not in a malicious way, but, hey man I appreciate all you’ve done, and I hope you reconsider. But I’m sure you can understand why need to GTFO til you figure it out.

key question there - Did he actually SEE Lubbock before committing to them?

As far as the portal in general, I would imagine the coaches are more accepting of returners depending on how they left. If they discussed it, OK, if the coaches first hear about it in a tweet, not so much.

What do you know about it?

I think we should go after that 4-fiddy pounder down in FL. Varsity should throw some $ at him and that UM guy

It seems to me we have the right staff in place to work the portal. The combination of returning players, quality recruits and incoming transfers has me optimistic we will have the most talented roster in 2025 that we have had in at least a decade.
Don't forget about the new salary cap guy GT brought in also.

How do they get anybody to volunteer to go to Lubbock?
Marry a West Texas gal......who has parents who won't fly to the Caribbean for Christmas.....so you end up in Lubbock (actually 30 miles west of Lubbock) every Christmas so your son can see his grandparents. Son is shooting rabbits with Uncle and Cousins at the moment.....loving it.

So did Romelo:
a) marry a West Texas gal?
b) develop a love of hunting rabbits and coyotes?
c) like dry, dusty, flat land

True men don't kill coyotes
