True Freshman

Zero reason not to play freshman on defense.

The DL and LBs aren’t shedding any blocks, the secondary is blowing coverages, and no one is making tackles. We’re not forcing any turnovers or punts.

What’s the downside? The opponent scores a couple plays quicker?

Suddes probably tracks who has played and how many games. Do you expect the head coach to track that? We need a CEO, not a micro manager. He has accountants take care of it all.
How fast does his Maserati go?

I agree with this.

Although I agree with this conceptually, that’s just not how this situation will work. The coaches don’t have enough job security to just roll freshman out there to evaluate and prep them for next year. Although Collins likely is safe because we can’t afford to fire him, his assistants are most definitely not. I could see big money donors pressuring Stansbury to force changes to the staff. These guys are going to want to play whoever gives them the best chance to win that particular game. I assure you they aren’t willing to sacrifice games this season for a potentially better team next year.

Based on the mental errors that I have seen from said upperclassman on Defense, the errors that our Younger Players might make cannot be any more gut wrenching and frustrating than what the older Guys have already done, maybe we find a gamer that doesn't choke under game pressure.

Our older guys on Defense seem to choke in Game situations, mentally that is

The long TD pass on third down last week was one of the worst I have seen in a while. DB totally caught flat footed looking into the backfield as the QB scrambled. The short out pattern was covered and we had a DE in position to get the QB if he tried to run. Our DB was totally in no man's land. Not in a position to help if the QB runs and allowed the WR to get 15 yards behind him.

Alternatively, if the young guys make the same mistakes, then you know coaching is the problem.

No. For the young guys it is a teaching opportunity. For guys who have been in the program for 4-5 years then they just need pulled

Young guys, old guys, new guys, old regime guys, transfers. At some point it is the coaching. Our backs aren’t choosing to play zone. They are being coached to play that zone. Just like the old OL coach didn’t teach the flopping fish, but the result of his coaching was the floppy fish.

IF the young Guys make the same mistake, what I then look for , is do they learn from that mistake and improve.

Some guys get in Games and have instincts that rise to the Top that might not show up in drills and in practice situations, in all likelihood the upperclassman knows how to practice and knows what the Coaches are looking for and in essence can game the results to get PT over a younger but maybe more talented player.

At 3-5 this is the perfect time to roll the dice with the younger players

At some point, our staff may need to look at the effort of the prior staff's players and determine which ones may not be deserving of PT

I did notice Blackstrain was fully dressed. Must have recovered from the injury?

Well if we are going to suck we need to play Coach Collins "recruits" so at some point they have game experience and can learn so we will have a chance a 6-6 season and a Bowl game!

That time would be the first game of the first season and every game since.

This is the kind of thinking that will salvage our football program. Its not really about a depth chart - its about performing at or above a certain level - we could even give it a catchy name to play off the 404 - Got It! AboveTheLine! or, we could just say we have such a list but erode the team's morale by allowing outperformed deadwood to remain ATL while outperforming newcomers are hitting a glass ceiling.

Can you tell I'm starting to get a bit cynical?

Good lord of he's fully recovered we have another weapon

Of course, he's a freshman with little practice time, but I can hope
Leo Blackburn is out for the season. I don't believe Blackstrain has been injured. Both are freshmen and both should be very good for us. I'm looking forward to seeing Blackburn next year. Both are highly rated receivers.

We need all hands on deck to win Games, winning Games is the most critical thing, that and playing crisper, more fundamentally sound Defense.

We have to change the "old 1980s &90s" mindset, when you step up and start Recruiting Serious FB Players with NFL Potential, then RS'ing means next to nothing.

Other than QBs, when is the last time you heard Ohio State, Oklahoma University, LSU, Bama, UGA, Clemson, ND, make a big deal or sweat the details over RS'ing any position players, that weren't injured?

ans:
Maybe 20 years ago(?), if a player can help he plays, period, hard stop, end of story.

If the Players pans out he's gone to the NFL after his RS-Soph or RS-Jr season anyway, and you never get that 5th Senior anyway, that's philosophy #1.

Philosophy #2 is this, more and more HS players are getting higher level instruction and development before they get to college, they lift year round, they only play 1 Sport in HS, so if you are recruiting the Players with the right Talent level, you'll have a pipeline of Talent to make up for Players leaving.

An example of #2: would you rather have our 5th & 6th year Seniors playing OLine or would you rather have the "backup" T-Fr & T-Sophs at a ND, Ohio State, OU, if you had to win a Game this season?

In summary, "getting old" is paying less dividends than it did back in the 80s & 90s, in 2021 simply get better FB Players that are more Athletic and better overall Athletes.
WF says hello. However, I tend to agree with you except for OLs and maybe DLs.

Or, maybe we can get them game day experience on the speed of college football and you can continue to sit your ass at home while us non crybabies attend games and support the team. Tard.
