TStan’s head still up his ass

Is this friend in the know? Am I misremembering reading articles where our big donors were saying a 3 win season is absolutely unacceptable?
nah. just a friend making an observation.

It boggling to me that users on here can’t think critically about the situation.
The idea that your view is the ‘critical thinking’ view, and other views are dumb or lazy or uncritical, doesn’t reflect well on you.

Reasonable minds can disagree about how to handle this bad situation. (Unreasonable minds can disagree too.)

Seriously though, this OC and DC search is going to be very difficult to land quality coaches. The only way to salvage this is to promise the guy the HC position once G**C** inevitably screws up next year.

This is a bigger problem than most realize. Dooley at UT was on the hot seat and his DC left so he had to hire a new one. Hired Sal Sunseri, a great career position coach who had never been a DC.

It was a failure.. Tennessee had a great offense and terrible defense that year, whole staff was fired that season. I suspect this is part of the reason that goose turned us down, doesn'twant to book 1st class on the Titanic. Although he could have parlayed that into an interim gig next October with a chance to earn HC.

Here's the thing: every report I've heard is that TSTAN is letting Geoff hire the new assistants.

That means that we will be on the hook for their buyouts which offsets any savings we get from waiting a year to lower head clown buyout. We HAVE to get at least one coordinator to be an AA hire.

Agree!

Geoff may be picking, but the AA does the contract. CGC has most likely been given a salary number so he can talk with potential candidates.

As a point of clarity, I want the AA to hire the coordinator HCIW independent of Collins.

It’s certainly hard for me to believe that anyone with a decent track record is going to agree to come here on a 1 year deal. You point out yet another reason that the right thing to do is cut ties and be done with this junk.

I’m still holding out hope this happens, but every day that goes by makes me think TStan’s ego won’t let him realize his mistakes.

So you want non football guys to hire an Xs and Os guy that doesn’t report to them?

Brilliant!

As much as Collins sucks, he is the football coach. If you are going to give him rope, you have to give him enough to hang himself

The future is already set. We’ll go 5-7 in a division that might be even worse next year. And CGC will leverage that “improvement” into a 5th year.

It’s pretty genius what he’s done. Get a long contract based on air, set the bar so low out of the gate that anything is improvement, get handed $20M.

I’m afraid you’re right. Reading thru some of the comments on this board shows that many folks have lowered the bar significantly. The guy is clearly a bozo and needs to fired immediately

What if I have zero confidence in any of them? And how is 3 wins for 3 years in a row not enough rope?

It was enough rope for me after two years. But we aren’t the AD who apparently thinks he hasn’t given him enough rope yet

gtrower, you channeled my thinking exactly. not that anyone remembers anything i posted, but i called the ditch a coordinator strategy 8 weeks ago, so that cgc could garner another year or two. it was the only way to get a year 4. you could see it coming down main street. my warning then is EXACTLY what my warning is now..and i'm not sure anyone is thinking this through...who is going to come in as OC (or DC) for this öööö show? and worse that that..

what if the worst happens and we win 5 or 6 games next year in this week division? this damned thing may go one more year because well....it's improvement isn't it? he'll use the "CPJ set us back light years and after 4 years we're finally .500, you have to give me one more year! just watch, year five will be 8 wins, just bring me back." (of course we know how that ends, with 3-4 wins in year 5 and he's gone midyear)

i'm with most of you, i wanted to believe but knew better. but know i have never seen less understanding of the game at the coaching level, less improvement in position players in which he inherited moderate to good talent (secondary, as an example) or in game management or poise or substitutions or play calling or sideline management. all the cgc dudes will point at the coordinators, but a fish smelling this bad stinks from the head down.

also note i'm the guy who's always critical of the fan base that wants a guy out after two or three years. look at any strong program and you'll see a coach who was given time to develop his team. but the lack of improvement in the coaching staff and on the sideline is enough evidence for me to cry uncle early. but let's enjoy 2022, it should be fun. and i'll be rooting for us, even through the pain.

good post gtrower...

It was sold as a 5 year plan from the beginning. Year 3 was the year to evaluate the coordinators. They performed much worse than expected.

New coordinators plus two years is hear now unless we have another meltdown year.

This was absolutely what having a recruiter/ceo coach means.
