Turf

why not grow the real stuff (maybe some sinsemilla or Tattnall County Red), harvest the CBD oil, market that and sell it and help fund the NIL program that way?
We got a good growing season from the end of spring football until the start of fall camp. We haven't gotten any concerts on it since we went back to the fake stuff and MLS ain't coming here, unless there is some sort of soccer tournament.
Might have to have armed guards around it 24/7.

100% Atlanta United driven. Tech thought they’d have more mls games and more concerts. Alcohol revenue from a single atlanta United home game paid for an entire year of BDS maintenance “and then some”.

Why would Tech think that the Atlanta United, who last played at BDS in like July 2017, would come back from their brand new custom-built mega dome to play at Tech like 3 years later when we installed the rug?

Concerts I can buy, although that was always a long shot. But MLS seems ridiculous.

United usually plays a preseason game and a US Open Cup game at Kennesaw St every year (I assume because they don't think they can come anywhere near filling the Benz for those games.) It would be a good deal for Tech if we could get those games. But if you're going to make that the reason for such a large change as installing turf, it would make sense to get some assurances first.

(I'm going to assume this was just another internal "justification" for a cost-cutting move the suits wanted to do anyway.)

Nothing like sitting on concrete and pissing into a trough to enhance your sports viewing experience.

I know you're being TIC but the ATLUTD games at BDS were absolutely amazing. I've seen many posts from non-Tech-affiliated United fans talking with nostalgia about those games and the atmosphere. BDS has its warts but it's absolutely a special place when there's an engaged crowd. It's great in exactly the opposite ways the Benz is great.

I heard that the games at BDS were great, but that’s the only “pro” I could imagine for playing more games at BDS, with a lot of cons lined up against it.

It would be truly bizarre if the previous administration was banking on a pro soccer team wanting to come to BDS from MBS while simultaneously moving the best college football games from BDS to MBS for 5 years.

I’m not sure the thought was they’d have regular season MLS games. But basically banking on more alcohol selling events. The solution seems simple to me….sell alcohol all the time? Is there some rule against it? Does it matter? What’s the ncaa going to strip from us? The juice crew?

We already do. Just not liquor.

Yeah, I imagine they thought, "Look how much money we make when we sell out an event. If we change to turf we can go after other types of events and make buku bucks."

And it probably would have worked great if the Dome, Philips Arena (or whatever it's called now), and Turner field didn't all exist within like twenty minutes of BDS.

So close.

this guy said that most schools he’s worked with have involved the head football coach in the discussions to have his input as well. Said tech never involved the coach and he never met him once. So maybe tech had some degree of sensibility in all of this.

Considering the work they do for the NFL MLS and MLB…no. I know one of the lead guys from Shaw who was Techs main contact for the transition to turf. We talked about it two weeks ago. He gave me some insight into techs motivations in making the switch which made sense but also highlight how incompetent we are.
FieldTurf is superior to Shaw. Tell your buddy that

It's just so stupid to me and indicative of the way our culture overall is in decline. We wholesale accept it, we retail pay for it, we commonly acknowledge there's something messed up ($6.50 today for 18 eggs?) but we don't do anything about it. It's literally stupid. Why the hell are we doing stupid öööö? It's stupid.
Egg prices have went down.

When we expanded BDS and put in the new north, we had the field redone, drainage improved, irrigation improved....we were proud of how we had improved our field, only to let a doofus AD and head coach somehow con us into the Shaw garbage we have now.

Conditions this winter and spring have been perfect for growing a beautiful playing field. We squandered it.

I knew something was up the final year we had grass when the crew totally ignored any sort of maintenance after the beginning of the season. Intentionally letting the field look like crap so we would accept the fake crap.

Instead, we got rid of the coconut husk filler (which supposedly was the new tits fancy thing that made it appealing in the first place) and replaced it with ground up rubber which is going to make the playing surface hot AF.

All around idiotic idea and execution from the start. Each day that they don’t tear the turf out and replace it with grass is a waste.

Do y'all think a "grassroots" pledge campaign to restore the grass could get enough $$$ pledged to do it? Just an idea.

I'd rather pay for grass than NIL because with grass at least you know you're going to get something for your money.
