Two B-Back or not Two B-Back!

First of all I don't remember Perkins being our most heralded recruit and secondly as long as we have a BB churning out 1300+ yards per year what "impact" recruit we had or didn't have matters not to me.

I don't recall a bigger name on the offensive side of the ball besides Vad.

Again, I'm no saying were gonna be terrible if sims is our b back. He's a great athlete. But I will be disappointed in Perkins. I think most people had him penciled in as a difference maker by his second year.

I get that, but lots of people looked at Sims the same way. Only one guy can play and someone's going to be disappointed.

I think Perkins is the best offensive recruit we've landed except for Vad Lee and if, after a year and a half in the system, he can't beat out a converted QB for the starting spot, I seriously ask if he is ever going to be a good BB for us.

But I agree, whomever is better should get the PT. Just worried about the position if Sims is actually better than our best BB recruit.

you need to pay the **** attention. Sims was a highly rated recruit too but he played QB in highschool and every other offer he had was to play RB NOT QB. He went with us ultimately because he got a shot at QB. Pay attention before you post.

:laugher: If I weren't retarded and could figure it out, I could paste a .gif of TWO snaps in Z formation.

Only reason we beat Gardner Webb in 08 was a pass to a bback. Paul johnsons play book is huge. He constantly adds new plays/wrinkles. There are plenty of passes to the bback.

and you need to quit being such a prick.

I know plenty about the program. Sims had offers from Kentucky, Kansas, NC St, SC. One of those programs is equal to or better than us, SC. So don't act like he was all-world and getting offers from top 15 programs.

your opinion is not better than anyone else's just because you throw in an expletive here and there.

Of course one does have to wonder about someone who would worry that how any particular recruit does would be an "indictment" on the program. Or somehow think that there is any message in a player changing positions and potentially beating out someone who's been playing there all along. Both those things happen every day in every program in the country. It's called football.

I recall severall B-Back passes off the top of my head...
Dwyer 70+ yard TD against Garner Webb
Dwyer reeling in a awesome sideline pass for ~30 yards against FSU in '08
Dwyer fingertip grab against Duke in '08
Dwyer long grab against LSU in '08 (think this might have been our first play?)
Dwyer short gain against FSU in '09 right before halftime
I think Dwyer had a few against Iowa in '09 but I could be wrong
Allen for a TD against Clemson in '10
The play Nesbitt broke his arm on was a pass to Allen I believe against VT in '10

That being said, this is over the span of 39 games so it doesn't look like a very meaningful part of the offense so far.

Dwyer also had a huge screen pass catch for a big gain against Clemson in the '09 ACCCG

His scout page doesn't show all of his offers... He had a few more from some bigger schools too.

Florida, Florida St., Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, and Tennessee along with the ones that you named. That's a pretty impressive offer list imo.

Fair enough. I did not see them. I must have looked at Scout.

Still, I've never said David Sims wasn't a great athlete and I don't think he'll be a bad BB if he wins the position.

But I'll be disappointed in Perkins and I'll be disappointed with the way we have recruited the BB position, which I consider to be our #1 playmaker position.

I understand the concern that perhaps a great BB has not been recruited, but I think we should wait and see who is actually getting the PT come fall. Theoretically Perkins could be a 1100 yd back but CPJ sees 1300 yard back potential in Sims. Does this mean that Perkins would not have been a great back and would have lived up to his billing...no, it just means he may not be the best on the team.
For example USC had two NFL caliber backs in Bush and White, Auburn had two in Brown and Williams and Arkansas had two in McFadden and Jones.

I guess our difference is that I don't care how we recruit the BB position, I care how much production we get from it.

Yes, but you don't you think its reasonable to assume that they are directly proportional?

Sure, but you're assuming that we know which recruits are the best BB prospects. Who's to say that Sims hadn't wanted to give QB a shot that he wouldn't have been our #1 option all along?

IMHO:

Sims or Perkins wins the job.

I have concerns about the loser making an immediate impact at A-back due to the amount of blocking that is required (which neither have any experience at) and the depth we have there. So I think both will stay at B-back especially if its a close race.

I have not seen Perkins play live.

The explosiveness I saw from Sims in Spring '10 and 3 series he got this year at QB was very encouraging. If he can take the physical beating and hold on to the ball, then I think he will be hard to beat out.

Since you mentioned it, I'll echo it. David has demonstrated a lot of power and quickness in his running and strives to get the extra yards, but he did seem to struggle to protect the ball.
