Update on the UCF game

It sure it's a better opponent and it's certainly not in recruiting hotbed, but I'm down. Would be incredible if the ADs worked it out.
It would give them a chance to avenge the ass kicking we put on their basketball team in the NIT. Let's get it on!

Their AD pansied out, and ours was a gentleman and didn't call him out on it. At least I hope that's the real truth.

Yeah. It would've been impolitic to criticize a school that just got hit by a hurricane for cancelling a football game. Even if it the cancellation had more to do with UCF incompetence or underhandedness.

If we wanted to play on our bye week, we could also get USF. Actually, Indiana will probably try to get them. Something tells me CPJ isn't going to be keen on losing a bye at that point in the season.

4 away games in 5 weeks would be really tough. If our goal is more to win the division than make a good bowl, 11 may make more sense than scheduling a 12th.

I think we'll probably end up only playing 11 unless we can schedule an FBS cupcake at home for that week.

In what world has recruiting been down? It's still not good, but the last two cycles are two of the top 3 classes CPJ has signed ('10 being #1).

As for this game, I assume they owe us a decent amount of compensation? We better not let them off the hook at of the goodness of oir hearts. They had two weeks to prep and are only losing a couple practices.
Yep, most starters are So./R-So./Jr./R-Jr. Future looks good--we lose 3 good DB's but have 2 good ones returning and a bunch of youngsters available, plus one of our better OLs is now So. dominated. Best 2 A-Backs return, top 4 B-backs, top 4-5 QBs, 3 outta 4 top WRs, and 3 outta 4 DL starters return. When recruiting is down, you typically don't start so many underclassmen.

Put me on the list that blames UCF's AD for being either bad at adapting to conditions and moving the game to a neutral site or chicken for using force majeure to get out of playing us.

Anybody can cancel that game, if you are savvy you find a way to make it happen.

You are really hurting over this, aren't you?

It does piss me off. I could see them weaseling out of this game from a mile away. For a second it looked like they weren't going to be able to, then they did anyway.

It hurts our team in a lot of ways to have one less game.

I don't think they were banking on a win against GT to go bowling.

Also I would bet that UCF will get 6 wins if not more than that. They are a decent team.

Yeah, I wasn't endorsing the "probably won't go bowling" part. Just the USF and UF still playing and UCF bungling it part.

FIU cancelled too but obviously they were going to get their asses kicked, probably the same reason UCF cancelled.

Apparently UCF's football stadium is being used as a staging area for the National Guard.

Heeding Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s call for public universities in the state to assist with hurricane preparation and recovery, UCF agreed to host up to 1,000 National Guard members and 250 vehicles on campus. That amount of personnel, in addition to the number and types of vehicles, meant that in and around Spectrum Stadium – the home of UCF football – was the best place to stage recovery operations.

...

"We're honored to host the National Guard and play a part in helping our community and state recover from Irma," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White. "On behalf of our student-athletes, athletics staff and fans, I promise the Knights will do everything we can to assist in recovery efforts."

Bungled indeed.

It took UCF a 1000-man National Guard regiment to stop our offense.

Seriously though, it's BS, they could've found a way to play the game. There's hundreds of stadiums in Florida. They could've come up to Tech, at worst. I bet there will be nothing at that stadium come Saturday.

I also bet if a journalist did some open records requests on the emails for the UCF people in charge of this game, we would see how shady this was. UCF probably begged the National Guard to come.

It also helps, at least right now.
