USC and UCLA to Big Ten

We were thinking we will have 4 big conferences to form the semi finals for playoff. At this rate we will just have Big 10 and SEC to form the final...

Yep SEC = AFC and B1G = NFC. I am thinking 2 twenty four-team conferences. We better secure a chair soon, if we didn't already miss that opportunity for the honor of playing regional opponents like WF, U of L, Syracuse, BC and Pitt.

UNC, Duke, NCSt, WF, GT, UVA, VPI, L’ville, Pitt, BC will pick from the likes of UCF, USF, Tulane, Cincinnati, Houston, Oklahoma St, Baylor, West Virginia, and TCU to add six teams for a 16-team ACC.

We had our chance to join the big ten years ago. They wanted us bad. Sailing ship
Funny, a buddy of mine who is a bigwig at USC says its not going to happen. I told him the exact same thing you just said about the B1G inviting us a while back and that, in my opinion - in retrospect, we should have accepted.

I hear Northern Illinois is pretty strong.

Suppose both the 16 team SEC and the 16 team Big 10 have their four best teams play in an eight team playoff to determine a national champion every year. They might not even bother playing teams from outside their 32 team federation. The teams that must really be worrying are ND, Clemson, FSU, Miami, Oregon, etc. They were spending a lot of money counting on TV revenue to pay for everything, and now they are on the verge of being irrelevant, as hard as that is to believe. This is not as much of a problem for Tech, because I'm afraid that we already made ourselves irrelevant.

I think we are headed to 4 conferences.

I think we are headed to two. The Big 10 and SEC will become two super conferences with about 24 teams each. That means there are about 16 spaces left in the heavyweight division. Our chances are not good, but not impossible, to be a part of this.

I think Washington and Oregon get in, Baylor and Oklahoma State, Clemson and FSU, Notre Dame and UNC. Who the next 8 might be will be a real Darwinian contest. Our history and location helps. Our recent football success and fan base size hurts.

The great question will be whether this extends to all sports. This could end up a football only move. Or, this could extend to all sports. If I were the left out schools I might play hardball and tell the Super 48 to do their own championships in all sports. A tournament without Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Villanova among others is a hard sell to TV.
