Maybe. But I don't think it would include Baylor.I think we are headed to two. The Big 10 and SEC will become two super conferences with about 24 teams each. That means there are about 16 spaces left in the heavyweight division. Our chances are not good, but not impossible, to be a part of this.
I think Washington and Oregon get in, Baylor and Oklahoma State, Clemson and FSU, Notre Dame and UNC. Who the next 8 might be will be a real Darwinian contest. Our history and location helps. Our recent football success and fan base size hurts.
The great question will be whether this extends to all sports. This could end up a football only move. Or, this could extend to all sports. If I were the left out schools I might play hardball and tell the Super 48 to do their own championships in all sports. A tournament without Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Villanova among others is a hard sell to TV.
Probably not with Washington, either. And it will be tough for Oregon. Same reason the ACC was forced to take Virginia Tech. Lots of politics involved in these states, and I do not see pols in Oregon let them dump Oregon State overboard, and same for Washington.
Anyway, better selections IMO would be Utah and Colorado. No natural in-state rivalries being abandoned to stir the politicians, and cover the huge swath of the country between Nebraska and Kalifornia. Alternatives would be Arizona and ASU. But Utah and Colorado are stronger programs with better fanbases.
