I think we're extremely well-positioned to slide into one of the super leagues. We're a perfect package compared to a lot of other contenders for both the SEC and Big Ten:
1: Very strong academics. The Big Ten has a huge boner for academics and isn't going to dumpster dive for the Oklahomas of the world like the SEC will. This alone gives us an automatic massive leg up over a lot of the field.
2: Location. The epicenter of the entire southeastern TV market. Capital of the SEC. Probably not a major factor, but an extremely convenient and enjoyable road trip for enormous numbers of SEC fans and Big Ten grads in Atlanta/the south, of which there is a massive number.
3: History with the SEC. I've always gotten the impression that a lot of the SEC wants GT back in, which gives us an obvious advantage over other competitors.
4: No state/political baggage like a lot of other schools have. UVA may have a hard time ditching VT, UNC may not enjoy going to a conference where they're the little fish in the pond. GT has zero issues like that.
5: All of our problems are temporary/easily solvable. We're a cash infusion and a good coaching hire away from being a legit top 25 football program. We don't have bad academics, we're not in a small market, we're not in a bad recruiting area, we're not located in the middle of nowhere. Our drawbacks are a lot less foundational than like, Washington State's are.
We should really be hoping for more seismic changes like this. It's either we get more major changes and (try to) get absorbed into a super league with a ton of money, or we continue our descent in the ACC with no way out.
