USf

Their local chapter here offered us to cancel the GT watch party to join theirs. They didn't even have a watch party last week. This game definitely moved up couple notches for me.

Oh ya, USF needs a good ass beating.

Russian -"Why is everyone crying about the passing game? We are a RUSHIN OFFENSE. Our problem in losses is almost always defense. The offense will score plenty on USF. We win if it's not a shootout.

I agree, when the opponents defense loads the box it forces the T-Option team to run the QB keeper/ pitch to the outside- or counter option. It takes away or highly hinders the Full Back to a high extent.

When a T-option team has a ligament passing threat, it puts the opponent’s defense back on its heels and they tend to go back to a 7-man front which opens up the full back attack again.

Weather it’s streak routs by the wide outs, involving the A- backs or even swing passes to the full back or up the middle , the opponents defense must be afraid of getting ripped by a small but effective passing attack.

Legitimate, whether....you know what nevermind, I like your version better. I don't know what a ligament passing threat is but I'm on board.

What I'm trying to say is to open up the T-Option running attack against some teams, the passing attack should be able to the wide outs for the long threat or any other back for first downs & potential break away plays. Weather that's for 80-110+ yards per game if needed. At least at a 50% completion rate. As long as the opponents LBs and secondary are threatened enough to allow all 3 phases of the T-Option, designed running plays and counter plays to work up front. The running game is opened way up.

"The thing we've got to do is get off blocks. It's going to come down to assignment football — who has the QB, who has the dive, who has the pitch. If we can get all three of those things handled, then we have a chance. We know this, offensively, our possessions are going to be limited because they're a ball-control offense. So when we do get the ball on offense, we've got to take advantage of the opportunities." — USF coach Charlie Strong

GT defense vs USF offense

They seem to be pretty excited about their WRs going up against our young secondary from what I've read. Which is reasonable. Keep bringing up McCants who appears to be a FB/slot hybrid if that makes any sense. Listed at 5'11" 240 on google. Decent speed for that size (not for a regular slot guy), but it's more about being a load to bring down once he gets moving. Would've made for a killer AB. They're saying we won't see another guy like him all season and I'd say that's probably correct.

Some sentiment that Alcorn had guys running open that they just couldn't hit against us. Remember some of that but also remember a lot of errant throws being caused by penetration. I don't know they kind of lost me with the "none of their WRs could crack our 2-deep" comments.

Obviously the Barnett kid at QB was a bigtime recruit out of HS before he flamed out at Bama, but none of their skill players really stick out other than McCants - and that's more for shock value. Their RB Cronkrite is a Florida transfer, but he sat out last week. Haven't seen whether he's playing Saturday or not. Looking at Florida highlights, hes got some burst for sure. Looks like he relies on getting vertical through holes more than wiggle or vision, so the spread should suit him well. The two guys who split carries last week didn't do much at all (18 for 78 4.3 ypc).

They were pretty even pass/run. Like to throw down the field and saw some bubble screens with the McCants kid. Overall I'm not any more worried about their offense than I was before researching. It'll be telling after the first few drives whether we're getting and pressure on Barnett. If he's got all day then they're good enough to hit passes and put up points. Gotta think the gap between the Elon defense to ours will be a good bit bigger than the Alcorn offense to theirs. So I expect us to get some pressure and force some punts.

Guessing we give up around 250 passing, 110 rushing, and 24 points. That's assuming our offense is moving the ball and we limit them to 9/10 possessions.

I’d like to see them no more than 21 points, I predict 28, but GT gets 35 on 11 possession game.

I’m sure they’ll score some on us. The question is whether they can stop us. We always seem to have the advantage offensively facing a team who is unaccustomed to what we do.

I don't think they'll score more than 24.

It'll come down to how many turnovers we have. Less than 3 and we probably win.

That's what I like to hear or see in script.

I remember the Nesbitt days a bit differently than some. Arguably our two biggest wins with him as starter were UGA in '08 and VT in '09. We didn't win either of those games because we had a credible passing threat. He went a combined 2/13 for 70 yards and 2 INTs in those games.
It was brute force and ignorance. And it was glorious
