Venables…

Venebles was really good at CU. I wonder if this is a case of doing more than he can handle. Plenty of top-shelf coords struggle in the jump to HC.
 
HC is a very different job from DC, but that collapse is still shocking to see. Venables’ defenses were consistently incredible at Clemson. I know his defenses were loaded with talent, but that’s nothing new under Dabo. I was sitting in the Orange Bowl in 2011 when Clemson gave up 70 to West ööööing Virginia. The DC was fired, and Clemson became a powerhouse basically overnight. Dabo averaged ~8 wins/yr without Venables, and ~12 wins/yr with him. The offense has fluctuated and dropped off when there was no elite QB, but the defense has never been anything other than dominant.
