I don’t know anything about anything. But I do believe that we have the right president in place for the moment. I trust Cabrera to make the right decision for Georgia Tech’s future, if he has an opportunity to make a decision. I hope he does. I don’t know anything about the legalities, I’m not sure the people who think they do actually know either. But I think we should F around and find out. The slap on the wrist for trying will pale in comparison to the penalty we and future generations will pay for us playing by the made up rules. Ask Maryland if they regret their decision. Any financial penalty will be dwarfed by the rapidly expanding financial gap between the ACC and B10. I really really really hope we make an aggressive push for the B10.

Just to add, if we wait to respond to the next wave of realignment, it’s too late. We need to BE the next wave. There aren’t many waves left. Even if there is “significant” financial penalty on the surface, it will be tied up in the courts for years. More than enough time to render it chump change relative to the financial gains of joining the B10. Just set aside some of that B10 cash for a couple of years and pay off the penalty. Or don’t, because once the ACC has dissolved, there is no more penalty.

Please tell me a time that GT has EVER made the right “big picture” decision. GT has failed at every turn. GT has gone from a southern powerhouse program in the SEC to a below average ACC program. That is what our history is. In my younger days I just chalked it up to bad luck, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that luck has a very little to do with big business. I believe GT is full of people who would celebrate if we ceased all athletic programs. Those of you pinning your hopes on one man (Cabrera) don’t realize what he is up against.

Are you saying our Hill is actually a swamp?

The ACC will be a big one… looks like everyone in the conference is looking for their exit plan right now. I suspect Washington and Oregon get poached and a couple more from the Big 12 and that will be the end of it. There are only so many teams worth grabbing left on the table.

I totally agree with you. I am not implying that Cabrera will be successful, just that more than any other recent leader, he will actually give us a (literal) fighting chance.

2023: “I don’t care about Duke or Wake”
2028: “Who cares about Clemson? We play Ohio St every other year”
2033: “Do we really need to play UGA every year?”
2038: “Do we really need a football team? We already have a great StarCraft III squad.”

The Dan Patrick radio show had the new B1G commissioner as a guest yesterday and he mentioned that their last expansion was a concerted effort to add western teams to their footprint. While he was coy about future expansion plans I could see them wanting to expand their footprint to the south in the future. Also keep in mind that poaching some ACC schools to the B1G might also create an environment where the biggest prize of all, Notre Dame, would want to exit the ACC and the B1G would be a logical landing place.

As much as I hate the Irish, it would be the right move for us...

So can a school be vetted without their cooperation, examining financial records and stuff? It is an interesting list if those schools cooperated and worked with vetting examiners if so.

The SEC and GT need a therapy session so we can make up. That’s where we belong. While the B1G is better than the current circumstances, we are a southern football program. It just ain’t the same in the Midwest…not a right or wrong issue it’s just different.
