I think I misunderstood your earlier post about thumbnails, and I totally missed your photo from the Army game. But with this photo, you have confirmed that it is indeed Duke in the photo that was originally posted.Like I said in the edit, click on the attachment & it should open a JPG, either as a tab in your browser or in whatever you use for JPGs.
"Are those RATS sitting cross-legged on the field? Pretty cool seats (until a toss sweep gets strung out over there, I guess!) "
ANS: No, the only sideline that would ever have that many people on the field, especially a Duke Homecoming Game, would be on the West sideline.
Ah, they had portable bleachers on the track. I was wondering where the wall was in the original pic.I have about 10 photos from the 1971 Duke game. This and the photo above were taken by the legendary Deloye Burrell.
I checked Army photos online, and they didn't have a uniform or helmet like what is shown in that photo
They used to have portable bleachers on the east side too. That's where the Rats had to sit.Ah, they had portable bleachers on the track. I was wondering where the wall was in the original pic.
I don't remember if any ever sat on the field, but there were "temporary" bleacher" at least on the east side and the horseshoe, and I think the west side too, where the rats and some others sat.I stand corrected. There's an AJC pic from the Army game that shows numerals on the Cadets' helmets. Other posters say Duke, but I don't ever remember rats sitting on the field like the pic shows, and 1971 was my rat year.
Oven was a beast.1971, Greg Horne & Duke are all correct.
Mike Oven is #86 having just put his guy on the ground & trying not a get an AstroTurf elbow burn.
note the crown on the field...I have about 10 photos from the 1971 Duke game. This and the photo above were taken by the legendary Deloye Burrell.

There was a time back then when Duke was wearing stripes on their helmets. I am going to guess Duke sometime in the early 1970s but this is a tough one.
Who can name the opponent Tech was playing and what year this photograph would have been taken?
Greg Horne, the pride of Murphy High School. Seems I recall a knee injury cutting short a promising career. Duke may have looked like the Cowboys in that get up but they didn't play like them.Hi, uniform enthusiast here.
This is the 1971 Duke game.
Greg Horne is the ballcarrier.
