Can Tech get rid of Collins without paying him? Let's see how things play out with Dan Mullen in Florida because I see no way Mullen is their coach in 2022. Florida has a history of dumping coaches without a full buyout. Look at Mcelwain a few years ago. He made a comment about death threats and that voided his contract. Look at Tennessee, the fired Pruitt for cause last year and paid him $0. After an internal investigation they determined all the players who took money and no NCAA sanctions are likely.

The damage Collins is causing is compounded by ugaly having their best season in 40 years. Stansbury needs to get in front of this now.

How does UF dumbass decisions affect the ATL? Are you implying that an SEC school would want a coach that could only muster 3 wins in the ACC?

I think the poster's intent is to kick our coach to the curb w/o $$$ harm to GT.

Out of curiosity what does UGA having their best season in 40 years have to do with GT CGC? I would be more concerned about losing ground and not being good enough to see how GT could ever win the ACC, that’s what matters.

Maybe since CGC has worked with Mullen and been successful, they could team back up here and work the same magic.

I do not think our AD will go down that path. He did not when he could have with Pastner.

I doubt he could have, anyway. Really hard to get out of paying buyouts and we have no inkling of wrongdoing on CGC's part, whatsoever.

TStan did fire Machelle Joseph for cause and got sued. So he is not opposed to doing it if he has a legitimate reason. He just didn't with Pastner and almost certainly will not with Collins.

Mullen isn’t coming to Tech. He’ll join the Saban School for Coaches Who Can’t Coach Good and in 2 years be a head coach again.

Or he’ll join Meyer in Jacksonville for however long that mistake lasts.
We have talent on the offensive side, and the competition is the lowly ACC. Collins is a good recruiter, so I can see him recruiting Mullen for a short stint. That is if Collins even fires any assistants, we will see.

I agree. My point was he would only go down that path if he had no choice.
In the WBB situation he made his best hiring decision to date. He hired someone with a proven track record at the highest levels.

That was not my point, I'm not interested in hiring Mullen although he would be a great improvement and I bet the situation here could create success similar to what he had at MSSU. But what I'm saying is look at how Florida handles their situation with Mullen when they fire him. Not if, when. The gators successfully canned their last coach with a minimal buyout. Employment contracts typically have clauses in them that allow the contract to be terminated for cause. Is there an out?

I’m not sure about every point being made in this thread but I’m not sure Mullen and Collins are close. Mullen took a shot at Collins when he left Miss State for Florida.

Now it seems like Mullen is a smartarse and difficult so maybe he is ok with Collins but that isn’t my impression.

If TDope was dumb enough to give a largely unproven head coach a 7 year due w/a monster buyout in the first four, what makes you think he was smart enough to include some sort of clause that gives GT an out?

And further, what has Collins done that would activate such a clause? Being a bad coach isn't Collins breaking the terms of the contract.

We also have to hope Stansbury with only fundraising isn’t like Collins with only recruiting. If it turns out that he sucks at decision-making too, then it’s hopeless.

Collins isn't getting fired before his contract expires.

til 2025.....not going to happen. In fact there is probably 10% chance he gets fired after 2 more losses this year. Next year probably 50% chance he gets fired.

As someone who remembers Curry, Ross, Lewis, O'leary, Gailey, and Johnson don't underestimate how quick the FLAME can ignite. I would not be surprised to start hearing whispers after Saturday's game. CGC better hope for competitive games. We have two blow outs then he may not make it through this year.

I think most consider CGC "dead man walking."
