We are just not very good

I'm usually very optimistic, so this is tough for me. You can't even pinpoint one thing is causing the problem. We can't run block, we're absolutely horrible at pass blocking, our running backs don't know what they're doing, our wide receivers can't get open, and the quarterback is so freaked out he's missing reads that he can make in his sleep. The defense is mediocre as always, and to top it off both sides of the ball are absolutely ravaged by injuries in a way I've never seen before.

I'm really curious to see what PJ does here, because we're not good enough to just run the base option. The skill players make way too many mistakes, and the line is just not good enough to make it easy for them.

I know some of you guys don't care about the Bowl Streak, but I think it's pretty important. There's a reason only three teams in the entire country have one longer, and all three are elite programs that regularly competed for national championships. I think it will pretty much take a miracle to keep it, but that should be our new team goal. Flush all of the preseason hype and put the past behind us. Start over and just win the games ahead of us.

It is crazy that our offense sucks so bad. I think our defense is playing great. They are getting turnovers and making enough stops.

This is our worst offense in a long long time. I'd like for PJ to explain why.

If you listen to his post-game comments, he explains pretty well (summarized above). I think it's pretty clear that the players haven't quit at all, we are just a bad team.

Kinda this. It's pretty clear the better teams have us outclassed. Clemson was all over us.

We're just so young and injured. And our rigid admissions requirements don't help.

Watch last year's Miami game, or the Orange Bowl and then watch us against Duke this year, or yesterday's game. It is beyond belief that we could have degraded so far so fast. It is as if we are playing with a collection of exchange students that have never played or even seen football before.

Shane Falco says it's quicksand.

What would your posit have been if you had been told of our personnel losses before the season started?

This is the bottom line. We are not a good team this year. It happens. A lot of factors add up to this; this particular collection of players and coaches just are not competitive with the teams we have on our schedule. This happens on occasion. You just have to try and work your way out of it. I thought we had reached a point in Paul Johnson's tenure that we had a sustainable program that would always be competitive with whoever we played, but I was wrong. I know it is frustrating for all parties involved but you can't throw you hands up and give up. We have six more games to play and at this point we just have to roll our sleeves up and keep working on getting better. Hopefully the young players are at least gaining experience that will make them better players down the road. As for the upper classmen, they know they have a short time to try and improve on their legacy as the 2015 GT football team. Hopefully they will dig deep, keep fighting and lead by example.

I know a lot of folks feel like we should change to some other offense or some other coaching staff but that is not going to happen in the short term and unless this continues on into next season, I don't personally feel like that is in the best interest of Georgia Tech football. It's hard to see how we could regress from a team that could have beat most anyone in the nation in January 2015 to a team that can not compete with our average ACC opponent in October of 2015. I can only attribute it to a loss of mental focus and competitive edge. I think a little success will cure a lot of our ills, but I am beginning to wonder when that will happen.

Regardless, as a fan, I will continue to do my job, supporting the Georgia Tech football program. Tough times never last, tough people do.

Go Jackets!

Good lost.

Good post. Bottom line losing sucks.

Excellent points. Looking spectacular in the Orange Bowl to being outclassed talentwise vs Clemson -and losing to UNC and Duke again- is a difficult pill to swallow. But when you look at the attrition due to the senior leadership loss, and talent loss, from last years team, then compound that with the ridiculous number of injuries since spring, it's really not that surprising.

Sitting six rows behind the Tech bench yesterday, I was wet, disgusted and emotionally demoralized. I really hand it to the players for hanging in there and fighting for 60 minutes -which is what you are supposed to do as a player. They were outclassed talentwise, probably knew it, but they didn't quit. I have tons of respect for Gotsis in particular.

And yet, we're all surprised.

It's humorous reading everyone's take on the current state of affairs. I happened to listen to a gagger call in show this morning and there appear to be many similarities between their fans and our fans. Everyone wants to blame the coach for the woes of the team and very little blame placed on the participants. In both places, the coach puts guys in positions to succeed and the rest is up to the player(s) to execute. The players are not executing...period. Until the players decide what needs to be done nothing is going to change. I realize that people don't like to call players out, but the players need to be called out. They are the ones not getting the job done.

We're actually the same, except we're good at math and they're borderline retarded.

We would look much better on offense with a good line. We are not playing young players there and they simply suck. 4/5 of this line started the Orange Bowl. If they are this bad 4 or 5 years in, let's get some younger guys in. I get that we have to play a lot of young guys (CPJ's fault) and they are mistake prone, I don't blame them. I just want to hear Paul say he screwed up by not recruiting enough backs in 2011 and 2012, making us susceptible to injuries. I'd also like an explanation of why our experienced linemen are choosing not to block. He needs to quit blaming the players for not executing and take ownership of his program.

I just cannot understand how 4/5 of a line that manhandled FSU, UGAg and Miss St can suddenly find themselves incapable of blocking dook and UNC? :eekfacepalm:
