I've stayed away from message boards since the Notre Dame game, for my own well-being. Now ready to post some thoughts, I didn't want to start a look-at-me thread, and this thread title seemed in line with what I think, so I thought I'd bury them here.
We just aren't very good. And I've gotten to accept that for this year. I'm still flying back to ATL for homecoming. I still support CPJ 100%.
I don't see our players quitting. I don't think our coaches have stopped caring. I do think it's time that we stop playing for the next game and instead start playing for the future. No more burnt redshirts. More teaching, more subs to develop experience on the depth chart. But that's my $0.02 and I'm not the coach.
I was one of those that before last year figured that if we were going to be mediocre, we may as well be mediocre with a "big boy offense". I was wrong. I now firmly believe that this coach is the best route now and for the foreseeable future at Georgia Tech.
He didn't back into that ACC Championship game, he earned it. And we gave FSU all they could handle. Probably played them better than anyone has in the last 2 years outside of Oregon last year in the playoff. Then curb stomped former #1 Miss State in only our second Orange Bowl since the Dodd era. That was a special season - probably our best team since 1990 despite not winning our conference.
I'd rather have those special seasons every now and then than a bunch of 8-4, 7-5 seasons. I'm not resigned to mediocrity, I want those special seasons. But I am realistic about our ability to produce them year after year at this point.
