We have no counter-punch

If there's one thing CPJ is a genius at, it's throwing the football! I'm sure he'll fix TM immediately.

Johnson has plenty of familiarity with the passing game. As an offensive coordinator at Hawaii, from 1987 to 1994, Johnson led an offense that used the pass-happy run-and-shoot and broke or equaled more than 160 school records. In fact, it was a caller who referenced Johnson’s days at Hawaii that led him to make his declaration about the passing game.

I think he was just throwing it away. No one was open and he was going to get sacked. Why should he take a shot from DT to make a throwaway prettier? My take away from that play is why are our passing concepts so terrible? We see the same coverage like 99% of the time. Corners man up on WRs and safeties bail to cover A-backs going vertical. Linebackers are free to blitz every time. How about Post-dig-drag? Make the LBs have to cover someone and that will help slow down the rush.

Like the dropped pass by Stewart in the Miami game? Or the catch by Searcy in the Wake game? Or the dropped pass in the endzone by Lynch because TM threw it 100 mph? Or the screen/overthrow to Benson vs UVa?

We do have routes over the middle. But our #1 read is the deep ball. And those were wide open all game long against UVa. TM just missed on them. I guess he could have checked down, but both coach and qb went with the open player.

I'm not talking routes over the middle. I am talking about route concepts that make the LBs have to cover someone, especially in obvious pass situations. If the defense plays 2 deep safeties we can get an A-back on a LB. If it is man coverage that should be a mismatch. The late near comeback against ND in 2015 was fuel by the fact the ND wasn't worried about covering the B-back. The problem was it took 53 minutes to figure that out. If our pass plays stressed the LBs at all it would help our pass protection and maybe open up the Qb draw.
